The Fast and The Furious 3: Tokyo Drift
You are probably asking yourself what the heck does The Fast and The Furious 3: Tokyo Drift have to do with Mustangs and why is this guy writing about it on his blog. Well I can tell you the only reason for this blog entry is because a Mustang makes an appearance and becomes a hero in the movie. The movie which opens June 16 nationwide features a 1967 Mustang which is the last resort for the main character who finds himself in need of a donor car for a life or death drift race.
The movie follows Shaun Boswell who is an outsider and illegal street racer in the states who finds himself in trouble with local authorites for the last time. To avoid jail time Shaun is sent out of the country to live with his uncle in the military in a low-rent section of Tokyo. After he arrives it does not take him long to get introduced to the underground world of drift racing via little bow-wow, yes he's in the movie to. You can find out more information at ComingSoon.net
The Mustang was copied five times over for a variety of different scenes throughout the movie. One of the '67 Mustangs is powered by a Nissan Skyline Motor RB26DETT (Twin Turbo V6). Another copy of the same '67 Mustang has a 430 ci Ford small block which was used for most of the sideways shots. Both Mustangs were said to be lined up at the dragstrip by Hot Rod Magazine and the Nissan powered Mustang ran the quarter mile in 13.32 seconds at 109 MPH. The Ford powered '67 Mustang was 1.2 seconds slower. Below are some specs on the Nissan powered Mustang.
