They have arrived like an early Christmas present for Mustang fanatics around the country, the 2008 Ford Mustang and Shelby GT500 order guides began popping up on Mustang forums via Ford employees last week. The order guides typically come out this time every year just as the order banks open up for the 2008 models. Yes you read that right, the order banks as some like to call them are open and you can actually go down to your dealer and place an order for a 2008 Mustang even though the 2007 models are still in production. Below I will go through whats new for the 2008 model year.
The 2008 Ford Mustang is a carry over from the previous year with a few option additions and changes that I will breakdown. For the exterior paint three new colors are added and three are going away, Silver Clearcoat Metallic (YN) is replacing Satin Silver, Dark Candy Apple Red Clearcoat Metallic (JV) is replacing Redfire and Vapor Clearcoat Metallic (ZY) is replacing Tungsten. Major options added for 2008 include Ambient interior lighting (95M), HID headlamps (51H) and V6 Mustang Coupes will have the option of 18" Premium Polished Forged Wheels. A new V6 Safety & Security Package will be offered that includes Anti-Lock Brakes, Traction Control, Active Anti-Theft System and a wheel locking kit. In the safety department side airbags are now standard on all 2008 model Mustangs.

In '07 a convertible with the California Special package was not available in Grabber Orange but based on the new order guide it is in '08. Am I reading it correctly? I hope so because if so I will be contacting my local dealer to palce an order.

I think you are reading it correctly. Looks like it is available in Grabber Orange with the Black stripe kit.
By Dave #3, Posted: 4/22/2007
That's great. I did not see why they it was not offered in '07 but I saw it on the '08 order guide as a coupe or a convertible with the GT CS package but notice it's not listed as an available exterior color below that package as a normal convertible color under "carryover colors". Does that that seem right? This is the first time I have seen the order guide as I typically have purchased from dealer stock but this time I what to make the car special to us and just what we want and nothing we don't.

I thought they made gt/cs in 2007 and this confirms it. I did a little digging and found a link to some pics of one,

Wow, Every time I tried to spec out an '07 in grabber orange on the Ford site and them selected the C/S package in came up with an error message (yellow !) and wanted to change the color. I even called my local Ford dealers and they said it wasent available. I did call on Monday and confirm that I can order an '08 convertible in that color and with that package. Thanks for your help.

but i wil a question. wy makes the new shelby gt500 not transmission on automatic? i wait so long for a 2007 ford mustang gt500 transmission on automatic:( than is i all done:D
By Barry Johnson #8, Posted: 6/17/2007
Why in the hell do you not make a 500 horsepower shelby GT with automatic transmission. I am 46 years old and every car except one has been a high horsepower car with auto-trans. A manual transmission is too much work in rush-hour traffic. Most Americans prefer auto-trans. I want a shelby GT500 at the present cost or another $1000.00 more but, Ford doesn't offer this to us consumers. So I will move on to a GM high-horsepower car that gives me auto-trans. Wake up guys; you can sell any product in USA if you offer the right options. If there isn't an auto-trans strong enough to handle the torque; then design one (many of us would pay the cost difference-think 60's auto-trans) if you must. Tell your engineers to use there 4 years of college brains!

Dave- I ordered and now own an 07 Grabber Orange California Special! If you would like to see detailed pics head over to www.grabberorange.net and search for threads by either OctoberJoe or Saylar. We both have one and the only difference between them is that mine has the cloth top and his has vinyl.

Dave - Can I order a 2008 Shelby GT500 in the YN color (Silver Clearcoat) or is this just a Mustang color option not available on GT500's?
By dan heagy vp Mustang club of maryland #11, Posted: 8/4/2007
The Shebly GT 500 with an auto. are you nuts. thats takes away the fun of driving it. that would be like have it without a supercharger. and i know auto in traffic is great but with that car would can drive around traffic jams.

I wrote a couple months back about my wife insisting on me ordering a shelby. Well guess what, I DID, and can't hardly wait for the expected February arrival date! Of course it's the triditional white with blus stripes and hardly any other options. Believe me it will never see a drop of rain or a snow flake. I'm 62 and still have the need for speed!

I did not see that the "Red Stripe Package" was going to be available in '08. Do you think it is going to be a later edition option like in '07 or is it not going to be available at all??? Say it isn't so!
By todd #14, Posted: 11/25/2007
The "Red Stripe Package" was released around the middle of October, only 600 will be produced and are only convertibles, with hood and deck lid stripes. Mine is supposed to be built the week of Nov. 26th.

Since no offer of a Shelby GT500 with auto-tans. is available...It's up to us consumers to build our own. And that is exactly what I had done to my GT500. Original transmission taken out and replaced with a special built high performance automatic transmission that can handle the
torque and horsepower of the GT500. Price was $5,000.00, in addition I had to turn over the original new transmission as part of the deal.
