Mark this glorious month of June down on your calendars as the month Shelby GT500 prices hit the wall and went splat. I know this because I have been religously watching markups/prices ever since they came out about a year ago and I can honestly say everywhere I look prices are coming down even if it's slowly. The prices I have been seeing on Ebay, Autotrader and various other places are in the low $50K's and even some sellers are asking high $40K's. Now I know there are still alot of dreamers out there and what I mean by this is your XYZ dealer still asking rediculous $65K prices, there are plenty on Ebay as I type this. I just laugh and move along when I view prices like those and you should to. I knew this time would come but did not think it would take almost a year for prices to head downward.
More fuel to my fire comes from a recent trip to my local Ford Dealership where I was purchasing an SUV for the wife and in the showroom they had a red GT500 coupe that had been marked down a few times; $59K > $57,700 > $55K. I asked our salesman why the mark downs on the GT500 and he flat out told me nobody has even made an inquiry about the vehicle for sometime and they were looking to move it. I wonder if this is the norm for dealers around the country, why else would we see these lowered prices.
After the jump I have listed the deals and dreamers I found on Ebay.

This is good news, maybe people who really would like to get one can finally afford one. This whole dealer mark up is extremely frustrating.
I had a deposit down on a GT500 for over a year and half. The dealer called a month ago and wanted $10,000 over list, told them no thanks and bought a regular GT instead.
Now I have extra cash to personalize my car to what I want it to be. I couldn't be happier! I even had enough money left over to buy a "winter beater."

Driftwell, did you buy a Shelby GT or a Mustang GT?
For those looking for an alternative to the GT500, consider the Shelby GT. The Shelby GT is also an awesome vehicle. My Shelby GT, when finished, "from the factory" will have 550-600 HP and is 500 # lighter than the GT500, GT500KR and the SuperSnake. Anyone want to race?

I bought a mustang gt. I live in Ontario and they don't sell the Shelby GT in Canada.

I bought a torch red GT 500 convertible in early June for 55K tax, title and liscense included. They were talking the 15K over sticker game with me too. They caught me in the lot, leaving, and made the deal. I figured they were having trouble moving it. Now you've confirmed it. Love the car, but the 3.31 gear sucks. It will get a 3.73 in the spring.

These cars are tanking in pricing which is good they should be sold at m.s.r.p. sad that Ford allows it's dealers to make the cars up. Imagine what the GT500 KR will be going for.

I agree Matt, Ford allowing dealers to screw the public is not the kind of message you want to send when your car company is in trouble. None of it makes sense to me.

I checked with the local Ford dealer on the GT500KR. I'd been seeing all the high prices on eBay and couldn't figure out how a car with an MSRP of $79,000 was selling for upwards of $150,000 (the dickwads at LoneStar). According to the dealer they had a KR coming in, but it was already spoken for. However if the deal went bad they would consider selling it to someone else for "around $125,000". The cobra on the grill isn't the only snake involved in these transactions. Ford can't control market forces, but the dealers definitely aren't endearing themselves to the buying public with this horse-hockey.

Do you think Bobby Bonnds's record breaking home run is worth a million dollars? It's the same concept as the mark up on a 2008 Shelby GT500 KR. The ball only cost $2-$5 to make. And the same goes for when you buy a house for 500,000 and it cost only 230,000 to build, no different than marking up the prices on specially manufactured Mustangs. We're all entitled to make a profit. Besides, the Shelby GT500 KR will be a collectors item down the road. How much will you mark your price up to? Think about it, you negative fools!! So will the real Mustang buyers who can really appreciate the value in a GT500 KR STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND CALL ME AT 410-998-3462 AND LETS MAKE A DEAL!!!!! I have silver with blue stripes do in any day now! Thank you for your time

I've been to three dealers in the Salt Lake Area and called one 300 miles away, in the past week. Each had one or two GT 500's to choose from, two of them offered them at sticker. I haven't bought yet but may buy a Shelby GT instead.

"Price Gouging!?!?!?!"
Here's what I don't get. I just went to a dealership on my way to a friends. They have 3 KR's. Two 09's and an 08. The 09's are going for $109K & the 08 is going for $94K. I already own a GT500 I bought used w/ just under 7K on the clock. I can send my car to Shelby for the Super Snake package, have a faster car than the KR w/ more bells and whistles and cheaper too! How does that make sense? The Super Snake will be a collector's item w/ Carroll Shelby's signature all over it.
