Over on MustangForums.com a member somehow stumbled upon a 200 plus acre Mustang Junkyard in the middle of nowhere in Rhode Island. The junkyard which was started in the 60's is populated with heavy tree cover and brush and is said to house some 20,000 antique and classic cars all throughout the woods. According to the forum member the cars were driven into the field and left to rust by the owner of the junkyard who is now in his 70's, going blind and has a drinking problem. Recently the state was made aware of this junkyard and ordered the owner to clean it up or all the cars will be crushed. There are said to be hundreds of 64-71 Mustangs including convertibles, Mach 1's, Boss', K-codes, fastbacks and maybe even Shelby's.
From the photos you can clearly see most of the Mustangs have heavy rust and body damage so restoring these will definately be challenging. If you have time I would look through a few of the junkyard photos below and after jump along with the arial satellite views showing all the cars scattered throughout the 200 acre woods.

"WOW" I do scale modeling of 1/25th scale cars in junkyard settings.I thought my junkyard dioramas were suitably cluttered with shrubbery, junk parts, and the rusting hulks of the cars.My dioramas are waaaaay toooo neat! This is great reference material for future projects,

Convertibles, Mach 1’s, Boss's, K-codes, and fastbacks yeah! I believe you, but Shelby's I really doubt it. Most of those Shelby Mustangs are gone or already restored and besides even if you do find one. The amount of money it would take to restore one would be INSANE!.
I'll stop by and check it out just to be sure.
Thanks for the info!

Wow! Great find. I don't know whether to be excited at the possibility of so many great resto projects or depressed at the fact that they've been sitting so long that many are probably rotted away.
I agree that Shelby's are unlikely to still be there, but you do wonder how many lesser known rarities may be hiding there like California Specials, Twister Specials, Color of the Month cars, Lone Star Specials, etc.
It would be great to get a VIN list and run it by Marti Auto to get the low down on what's there. Like panning for gold!

Would like to know more on this JY. When will they start taking care of this area and how will it be handled. I have a '68 2 door coupe and still need a couple of parts. Also if anyone is interested we have a few parts we found in the trunk when we bought the car and are willing to sell them.
