FR500CJ Cobra Jet Prototype #1 to be Auctioned at Barrett-Jackson

December 31st, 1969   As I was looking over the 2009 Barrett-Jackson car list today, yes I have no life, I noticed Lot# 1347.1 had changed.  Originally when I was doing my BJ Mustang Auction preview the auction was for the first 2010 Mustang off the line but has since been changed by Ford to the FR500CJ Cobra Jet Prototype #1 which they are calling XX1.  I am not sure when Ford made the change or why but we did notice the first 2010 Shelby GT00 is still set for auction right after FR500CJ Prototype.  The auction is set for sometime in the late afternoon on Saturday, January 17th. With a serial number of FR500CJ XX1, it's the first Cobra Jet built from the ground up to recreate the original 1968 Cobra Jet.  Actually it's 1 of only 2 prototypes built prior to the production run of 50 FR500CJ's.  This prototype was used extensively in testing and development with several professional drivers getting behind the wheel including John and Ashley Force, Robert Hight, Mike Neff and Bob Tasca III.  Other Ford drag racing legends who also got seat time included Bob and Bill Glidden along with editors from "Car Craft", "Race Pages", "5.0", and "Hot Rod". Description of FR500CJ from BJ:  The Cobra Jet features the Supercharged 5.4 Cobra Jet engine, Cobra Jet cold air kit, Cobra Jet throttle body, air conditioning and rear seat delete, crankshaft damper, Cobra Jet bellhousing, 6-speed manual (or 3-speed automatic) transmission with SFI bellhousing, stainless steel long-tube racing headers, 9" rear axle assembly, one piece driveshaft drive shaft, single hoop drive shaft loop, Cobra Jet rear control arms and anti-roll bar, Ford Racing adjustable dampers, drag race spring kit, and unique Cobra Jet wheels. Inside are a 5" Cobra Jet IP-mounted pedestal tachometer, a full complement of Ford Racing performance gauges, a short-throw shifter, and Cobra Jet seat package. Completing the package are a safety cage and safety harnesses.
