Is Ford Building A S197 Boss Mustang?

December 31st, 2005 by CobraMatt

The answer to that question seems to be yes they are. With the much anticipated release of the Dodge Challenger concept and the Camaro conept Ford is stepping up efforts to combat those two models with the return of the Boss Mustang.

According to StangsUnleashed.com a Boss S197 Mustang program exists and a Boss Mustang is coming our way within the next few years.

As for the engine choice Ford would use, rumor has it they will be using a naturally-aspirated 5.4L version of the mod motor. The FPV version of this engine is used in Austrailia and it produces around 390 HP similiar to that of the 2003-04 supercharged cobra according to Eric Bryant on Autoblog.com.

The Boss Mustang was manufactured for three years starting in 1969 available with a with a 302 and a 429 and ending in 1971 with a 351.

As for the Boss Mustang nameplate, it is still the property of the Ford Motor Company.

Most Impressive Group of Shelby’s Ever!

December 30th, 2005 by CobraMatt

The Barrett-Jackson Auction Company will host Mr. Carroll Shelby and sell the most impressive group of authenticated Shelby vehicles during the Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event in Scottsdale, Ariz., on January 14-22, 2006. A total of 22 Shelbys, ranging from Cobras to the rights to the first 2007 Shelby G.T.500 coupe offered for sale to the public will be sold at no reserve during the 35th anniversary event.

“Carroll Shelby and his companies have built some of the most spectacular and collectible cars in the world,” said Craig Jackson, President and CEO of the Barrett-Jackson Auction Company. “We’re pleased that Carroll will attend and help us offer so many Shelby cars this year. We believe this will be the largest collection of high caliber, authenticated Shelbys offered for sale at no reserve in history.”

The collection of Shelbys includes a Cobra, G.T.500’s and G.T.350’s from virtually every era. Coupes, convertibles and two seat roadsters in both small and big block configurations will be available at no reserve. Each car was decoded, verified and authenticated by the Barrett-Jackson team.

Carroll Shelby, who celebrated his 80th birthday at a gala conducted in his honor at Barrett-Jackson in 2003, enjoyed success in sports car and formula series around the world. He won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959 and was named Sports Car Illustrated’s “Driver of the Year.” After retiring from racing due to a heart ailment, he founded Shelby American and reinvented the performance world with his Cobras and Mustangs in the 1960s. The automotive icon reunited with Ford later that year to develop enhanced editions of the company’s vehicles.

“We assembled some of the most significant Ford powered Shelbys ever built,” added Shelby expert and Barrett-Jackson Executive Vice President Steve Davis. “With the skyrocketing interest in Shelbys and attendance by the legend himself, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a priceless piece of automotive history.”

Bidders will be able to choose from a 427 big block Cobra and Shelbys based on the Ford Mustang from every year. Special cars will include a striking, second owner 1968 G.T.500 “KR” convertible, the first 1965 Shelby G.T.350SR 40th anniversary model, one of only 1,000 built “Hertz” G.T.350’s, a rare triple white 1970 G.T.500 convertible and a stunning, award-winning restored 1965 G.T.350. Mr. Shelby is scheduled to greet the winning bidder of the rights to the first 2007 GT500 coupe, with proceeds from the no-reserve sale benefiting the Carroll Shelby Children’s Foundation.

“Barrett-Jackson is the only auction company that goes to such extraordinary lengths to ensure that every Shelby is genuine and has a documented history,” noted Mr. Jackson. “That’s why so many people have trusted Barrett-Jackson to purchase their collectible Shelby over the past 35 years.”

Barrett-Jackson continues to set the standard for the collector car market by elevating consignment standards, breaking records and serving as the barometer for market trends. Last year, the company conducted its most successful car auction to date, breaking records in numerous categories, including overall attendance and sales in world-class street rods, muscle, sports and classic cars during the 34th annual Barrett-Jackson “World’s Greatest Collector Car Event.” SPEED Channel will provide 32 hours of live coverage inside the largest tent structure in North America.

SLP PerformancePac for 2003-04 Mustang Cobra

December 27th, 2005 by CobraMatt

If 390 horsepower was not enough, SLP Performance has put together two different performance bolt-on packages for you horsepower hungry 2003-04 Cobra owners. SLP claims you can get 575 horsepower out of your supercharged 2003-04 SVT Cobra’s by adding one of it’s Performance Pacs as they like to call them and they have proof via a Dynosheet at the bottom of this article.

In the picture above we have featured part #M31050 which includes the High-Flow cats at a price of $2,694. For $60 cheaper you get the same pac with straight pipes instead of cats. What is included in each pac is below.

Included in the M31050 pac:

  • 2.80″ Supercharger Pulley (M10002)
  • Supercharger-Pulley Tool (M10003)
  • Supercharger Belt (M10005)
  • 95mm Mass-Air Meter with High-Flow Air Filter (M23000)
  • 1 3/4″ Coated Long-Tube Headers (M30002)
  • X-Pipe Short Assembly with High-Flow Catalytic Converters (M31034)
  • Loud Mouth™ Modular Cat-Back Exhaust System (M31006)
  • DiabloSport II Programmer with Multi-Stage SLP Custom Tuning (M27000T)
  • OEM-quality fender badges

Included in the M31051 pac:

  • 2.80″ Supercharger Pulley (M10002)
  • Supercharger-Pulley Tool (M10003)
  • Supercharger Belt (M10005)
  • 95mm Mass-Air Meter with High-Flow Air Filter (M23000)
  • 1 3/4″ Coated Long-Tube Headers (M30002)
  • X-Pipe Short Assembly with Race Pipes (M31035)
  • Loud Mouth™ Modular Cat-Back Exhaust System (M31006)
  • DiabloSport II Programmer with Multi-Stage SLP Custom Tuning (M27000T)

All included parts are designed for an easy, bolt-on installation. Unlike a centrifugal-blower conversion, the SLP PerformancePac causes no loss of low-end torque. In fact, torque output is dramatically enhanced throughout the rev range (400 lb.-ft. available at 2400 rpm, 500+ lb.-ft. available at 3200 rpm).

All SLP exhaust parts are hand-built from 100 percent stainless steel and covered by a limited lifetime warranty. The Headers feature a standard aluminum-ceramic performance coating to keep heat in, exhaust velocity up, and under-hood temperatures down. The X-pipes employ SLP’s exclusive five-piece modular design, making it possible to switch between cats and race pipes in a matter of minutes.

SLP’s custom PCM programs were developed over hundreds of hours of grueling in-house dyno testing. Our engineers sweated the details so you don’t have to. Jointly developed components yield optimum performance and reliability. Why experiment with parts combinations? The SLP PerformancePac takes the guesswork out of building safe, consistent power.

D1 Grand Prix USA vs. Japan All Star Exhibition

December 27th, 2005 by CobraMatt

I have been scowering the news wires for some Mustang Racing news and all I could find is some drifting news. I found this article about the D1 Grand Prix USA vs. Japan All Star Exhibition by Gene Tijn of OverBoost.com. The article highlights the 2005 drifting season coming to a close. Check out the article and pics below.

Article: As the 2005 season comes to a close, the D1GP USA versus Japan All Star Exhibition proved to be one for the books. With some of the best American and Japanese drivers hitting the track at Irwindale, anyone and everyone in attendance was treated with performances they’d be sure to remember.

With top seeded drivers from both countries on hand, the competition was tougher then ever. The slightest mistake meant losing your chance to advance to the next round and ultimately your chance at becoming the top dog and the end of the night. The set up for this years event put the top 16 drivers from each country head to head in two bracket battle which proved to be exactly what the crowd wanted.

Aside from the on-track festivities, the D1GP crew also brought out a little tease of what’s in store for the 2006 Tokyo Auto Salon. On display were cars from some of Japans top tuners such as Top Secret and Cusco, the Options2 Nissan 350Z, and many more. Alongside of Japan’s finest were some of America’s finest show and track cars covering all sorts of makes and models. Giving the spectators a little taste of what’s to come at next months Auto Salon only makes us wish time would go by a little quicker so we could see what else is in store.

In between the rounds of action we were able to take a walk around the pits and see what other sights there were. From cars that didn’t get a chance to make the cut of the top 32 drivers to vendor booths and other cars on display there was something for everyone to enjoy. Even though most fans came to see the action taking place on the track, getting the chance to see some of the Japan-only cars up close and personal was a once in a lifetime opportunity for many.

Besides the cars on display in the pits, the infield also had it’s fair share of eye candy to look at. Between passes crews would take advantage of down time to work on cars and get them ready for the next round and would also give those lucky enough to get down there the chance to get up close with the drivers and their cars.

As expected, the infield was filled with the world’s best drivers and also a handful of race queens. With the likes of father and son drivers Rod and Rhys Millen (who didn’t make the field due to an accident on Thursday) to Yasuyuki Kazama (the 2005 D1GP Champion) those on the infield had the opportunity to interact with drivers and get an inside look at what the drivers and teams were preparing for the following rounds.

At the end of the night, Falken Tire’s own Vaughn Gittin Jr. behind the wheel of a new model Ford Mustang took home not only top honors but bragging rights being the first American driver to not only see the podium at a D1GP event but be the man at the top. With stellar driving throughout the day, Jr. was able to out maneuver the Japanese competition and make his way in to the books. Congratulations to both Vaughn and Team Falken for putting on one of the best performances we’ve ever seen.

1996 Mustang Hits Dead End at Cemetery

December 22nd, 2005 by CobraMatt

A little cemetary humor never hurt anybody. You know how everytime you go by a cemetery somebody in the car has to pull out the lame joke of “You Know, People Are Dying To Get In There”, well it seems a driver of a red 1996 Mustang tried to get in the hard way. As the Mustang went off the road it took out the sign near the cemetery entrance and went nose first into the brick and steel fence that surrounded the Alva Municipal Cemetery.

Erin Leigh Bolin, 22, of Enid, OK, the driver of the Mustang was wearing her seatbelt and called for help to inform the Assistant Cheif that she has suffered from seizures in the past and this may be a result of one.

The accident caused approximately $3,500 damage to the Mustang and roughly $500 damage to the brick fence post owned by the City of Alva. No citations were issued and the driver was not hurt.
