February 25th, 2006 by CobraMatt

US Army Specialist, Marshall Wright of 4th Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division in Fort Bliss, Texas; is celebrating his 23rd birthday in a big way as he receives the keys to the Toyo Tires Catch Our Drift sweepstakes 2005 Ford Mustang GT. Wright served 14-months in Iraq, returning to his base in El Paso, Texas on July 28th.

Wright’s mother entered his name in the sweepstakes via a mail-in form. The car replicates the appearance of the Toyo Tires Mustang Drift Car piloted by drifting sensation, Ken Gushi. According to Wright, “Since arriving from Iraq great things have been happening to me. I recently moved into a new house, will be promoted to Sergeant on April 1st, celebrated my 23rd birthday yesterday, and then got the keys to this car today so I can drive it home over the weekend.”

The Catch Our Drift Ford Mustang features silver paint with custom graphics, an Eibach suspension, carbon fiber hood and fresh air intake system, a Flowmaster performance exhaust and 18-inch American Racing five-spoke wheels shod with Proxes T1R™ ultra-high performance tires from Toyo Tires®. According to Travis Roffler, Senior Director of Marketing, Toyo Tire (U.S.A.) Corporation, “You couldn’t have written a better script for today’s giveaway. We are especially pleased that our car was won by an individual who has selflessly devoted service to this country.”

The Catch Our Drift sweepstakes ran nationwide from June 1, 2005 through December 31, 2005. The sweepstakes celebrated the opening of the new Toyo Tires North American manufacturing plant in White, Georgia this past December. For more information on Toyo Tires, log on to toyo.com. The A-Wing From Agent 47

February 24th, 2006 by CobraMatt

It ’s not everyday you see a functional cockpit controlled rear wing on a Mustang. In fact the only functional rear wings I have ever seen are found on newer Porcshe’s and the old Mitsubishi 3000GT VR4. Those wings depended on how fast your mph got up to and it would raise or lower accordingly. This wing is fully controlled by you the driver.

Let’s give thanks to Agent 47 out of Carlsbed, CA for coming up with this creation as you can now have that option at your fingertips.

The Agent 47tm cockpit controlled rear wing is inspired by the innovative Chapparal Can-am cars of the 60’s that were eventually banned because of their frighteningly fast cornering speeds.

Unlike factory movable wings that extend and retract at predetermined speeds the Agent 47 wing is to be used at the drivers discretion like the radical racing technology banned in the 60’s. If the FIA ban were lifted you would see movable wings in all forms of racing. Some of the unfair advantages that you will experience are noted below.

The options associated with the wing:

  • Raise wing for increased downforce, traction and stability in corners
  • Lower the wing for decreased drag in high speed straights
  • Driver controls the downforce and drag
  • Factory wings do not know when you are in a corner or on a straight
  • Rapid pneumatic wing not slow like factory wings, Less than one second actuation
  • Lower the wing for drifting or increased oversteer
  • Fixed wings designed for downforce will also increase drag, significantly lowering top speed
  • Air Compressor, Reservoir, and Shift Knob with control buttons included
  • Designed with the aid of Aerospace and
    racing aerodynamicists
  • Typical installation time 6 to 8 hours

Classic Design Concepts Ducktail Spoiler

February 8th, 2006 by CobraMatt

Classic Design Concepts has released another product, the Ducktail Spoiler, for the 2005+ (S197) crowd. The spoiler is designed and engineered by CDC. The spoiler is blow molded ABS made up of three pieces, which is lightweight and requires no trunk strut adjustments. The spoiler will hard mount to the vehicle via bolts and/or acrylic bonding tape to increase durability and long term fitment.

The 2005 Ducktail Spoiler is available with or without the pony logo, in all factory colors and unpainted. To simplify the installation process, order your Mustang with the Spoiler DELETE option. If you have the factory spoiler you can order CDC’s optional stock spoiler hole delete kit. The Nifty Hole Filler Set eliminates the need to repaint the trunk while giving additional appeal to the Ducktail Spoiler. CDC designed the Ducktail spoiler without the CHMSL to meet their true vintage design goals, but CDC understands that some customers wish to have the optional 3rd brake light so they created a system that does not intrude on the design efforts of the spoiler. This optional 3rd light mounts inside rear window. This 15.6” LED light adds a high mount high tech look when brake is applied and is otherwise invisible. What the future holds…Chin Spoilers, Sequential Tail Lights, C-Pillar Scoops, Grilles, Hood Scoops to name a few.

Sam’s Club, the warehouse division of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., is offering its members the rights to the first production car during an on-line auction held to celebrate Super Bowl XL. The Foose Mustang, with an MSRP of $42,000, went up for auction at www.samsclub.com, on Thursday, February 2, 2006, with a reserve price of US$25,000. Bidding quickly shot up to $80,100 and will continue at $100 increments through 5:00 p.m. CST Tuesday, February 7. To view the auction click here.

“SAM’S CLUB is pleased to offer this extraordinary piece of machinery,” said Mark D. Goodman, SAM’S CLUB executive vice president, Marketing, Membership and E-Commerce. “When you think of the all-American car, Ford is top-of-mind. Chip Foose’s design expertise combined with the prestige of the Ford brand and build quality of Unique Performance have enabled us to offer our Members a rare piece of automotive history that’s sure to be enjoyed for years to come.”

BF Goodrich will give away a customized edition of the Foose Mustang during the 2006 NBA All Star Game in Houston on February 19, 2006. The tire giant promoted this one-of-a-kind sports car during a national marketing campaign where the Mustang traveled from coast to coast, capturing the hearts of both the public and media. The custom Mustang also appeared with Mr. Foose in posters and a national advertising campaign.

The popularity of the car began to skyrocket on January 21, 2006, when the first Foose Mustang coupe was auctioned at the 35th Anniversary Barrett-Jackson “World’s Greatest Collector Car Event.” A private collector scooped up the pre-production car for $167,000. Production Foose Mustangs are scheduled to be available through select Ford dealerships nationwide in the summer of 2006.

Book: How To Build A Ford Restomod

February 3rd, 2006 by CobraMatt

The styling of Ford’s muscle and pony cars of the 1960s and 1970s is amazing, but their performance in some areas just isn’t up to date. So what do you do if you want the classic look of a vintage Mustang, Cougar, or Gran Torino, but the power, handling, and drivability of a modern performance car? Build a high-performance Ford Restomod!

How to Build Ford Restomod Street Machines shows you how to modify your vintage Ford to accelerate, stop, corner, and ride as good as – if not better than – Detroit’s best new high-performance cars. Don’t subject your classic Ford to a life of garage time, trailer rides, outdated factory-original performance, and the occasional Sunday cruise – build it to run hard.

Author Tony Huntimer uses over 300 photos to show you how to upgrade your engine, drivetrain, chassis, suspension, body, and interior to make your ride a stand-out performer using factory and aftermarket parts. He even covers many Ford-specific upgrades, including the Granada brake swap and the popular Shelby Mod.

The book contains 144 pages and approximately 300 black and white photos.
