JPC One-Piece Aluminum Driveshaft

May 31st, 2006 by CobraMatt

As most of you know the S197 Mustangs come with a two-piece OEM driveshaft which can restrict putting much needed power to the pavement. With this problem in mind JPC has the solution, they have designed a custom one-piece driveshaft for your 3V Mustang GT to get the much needed horsepower to the ground in the most efficient way.

JPC’s precision driveshaft is 4″ thick and is a direct OEM replacement for the two-piece unit. It weighs in at just 17 lbs which is mindboggling over the OEM unit that weights in at 48 lbs.

The driveshaft has been track tested by there Record-Setting Silver GT with Mickey Thompson ET Street Slicks bolted on it and has withstood the tremendous abuse that has been thrown its way.

JPC’s Custom Driveshaft has seen low ET’s in the range of 10.20 at over 138 mph! You can buy this driveshaft directly through there website at JPCRacing.com for $749.95.

Ford’s In Test Drive Unlimited Video Game

May 29th, 2006 by CobraMatt

Atari’s Test Drive Unlimited will be arriving on Xbox 360, PC, PlayStation2, and PlayStation Portable in October of 2006 just in time for the Christmas rush with a little bit of Ford enginuity. The game will feature the Ford GT, Mustang , Mustang GT and The GT-R. I have played many racing games on alot of platforms and I have to say from the screenshots provided this game looks pretty life like in so many ways. The cars have such intricate detail not only on the outside but also on the interior of the car. Check out the pics below to decide for yourself.

Test Drive Unlimited is an open-road driving game set on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. The game is split into single-player and multiplayer options with the solo mode letting you compete to win high-performance vehicles and larger garages to put them in. The game also include a big online component and has been hailed as the first multiplayer online racing game of it’s kind. Players from around the world can create a challenge for other drivers, place bets on race outcomes and join clans.

Press Release:
This week we reveal an American icon: Ford.

Ford is an American original. The company revolutionized the way that cars were built, driven and perceived. The list of models that Ford has turned out over the years is as long as the company’s rich history and nearly all models are instantly recognizable to people in America and abroad. Now in Test Drive Unlimited, you have the chance to drive some of America’s most classic, reliable cars through some of Hawaii’s most beautiful highways.

Ford GT
The Ford GT was designed in anticipation of Ford’s centennial year. Designers drew their inspiration from Ford’s classic GT40 race cars of the 1960s, and the two are so similar in style that the GT is sometimes confused for its 1960s counterpart. This is a very high-performance supercar with a supercharged 5.4 liter V-8 engine producing 550 hp and boasting a top speed of more than 200 mph. Relive shades of the 1960s Ford race cars or start your own legacy with the Ford GT and Test Drive Unlimited.

Mustang Convertible
An American classic, the Ford Mustang is one of the most popular sports cars of all time. This version is a sporty convertible, with a V-6 210 hp engine. This is the redesigned 2005 model of the Mustang, and has the power to ride with most cars out on the highways.

Mustang GT
This is the slightly more powerful version of the 2005 Mustang, with a 300 hp engine. It drives faster and has a better suspension system for easier handling, perfect for those Mustang fans who want a little more boost when flying through Oahu.

Mustang GT-R Concept
The Mustang GT-R is a concept car designed as a tribute to the 40th anniversary of the Mustang. The car features Ford Racing’s 440 hp “Cammer” crate engine that can be tuned to produce more than 500 hp. The Mustang GT-R is a racecar by design that can handle the world’s toughest road and street courses. If you’re a fan of Mustangs and Ford Racing, you owe it to yourself to tweak this monster, take it out on the streets of Oahu and show the competition who’s the boss.

Soldier’s Mustang Memorializes POW’s, MIA’s

May 29th, 2006 by CobraMatt

I found this story about a Servicemen who has converted his Fox-Body Mustang into a memorial for all our fallen heros. The story was written by Melissa Vogt of MarineTimes.com. Staff Sgt. W.C. Petty II didn’t soup up his 1990 Ford Mustang LX just to feed his ego. He converted the popular muscle car into a memorial on wheels, a visual exhortation to pedestrians and other drivers to not forget prisoners of war and troops missing in action.

“This car is to educate and help people remember,” Petty said. “I believe if you cannot honor those who served or the POW and MIA, don’t honor me with your presence.”

The car’s color scheme is black and white, taking its inspiration from the famous POW/MIA flag created in 1971 for the The National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia.

On the Mustang’s hood, stripes of red, white and blue flank the names of POWs and MIAs from Petty’s home state, Michigan. The sole exceptions are the first and last names on the list. Topping the list is Gracy Capps, the grandfather of one of Petty’s soldiers. Ending the list is Russ High, one of Petty’s friends.

More names are added whenever Petty shows the car and meets a combat veteran.

“I have them sign the car on the black vinyl with a silver pen,” he said. “I have one gentleman who served in three wars.”

Petty, who marks 15 years in the Army in August, is now stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash. He works in military intelligence and is assigned to U Troop, 5th Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment. He’s been slated for a combat tour next year.

Petty bought the Mustang in December and began modifying it in March. The exterior work was finished by April.

Petty added that he received significant help on the project, with support coming from his wife, chain of command, ACE Made Signs, Crests Unlimited, Mustangs West, Exhaust Pros of Lakewood, Wash., and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 318.

People near Fort Lewis will be able to see his POW/MIA Mustang at parades and car shows, and sometimes on weekends, Petty said.

“At around 10 to 13 miles to the gallon, it is kinda expensive” to drive every day, he said.

The Fast and The Furious 3: Tokyo Drift

May 27th, 2006 by CobraMatt

You are probably asking yourself what the heck does The Fast and The Furious 3: Tokyo Drift have to do with Mustangs and why is this guy writing about it on his blog. Well I can tell you the only reason for this blog entry is because a Mustang makes an appearance and becomes a hero in the movie. The movie which opens June 16 nationwide features a 1967 Mustang which is the last resort for the main character who finds himself in need of a donor car for a life or death drift race.

The movie follows Shaun Boswell who is an outsider and illegal street racer in the states who finds himself in trouble with local authorites for the last time. To avoid jail time Shaun is sent out of the country to live with his uncle in the military in a low-rent section of Tokyo. After he arrives it does not take him long to get introduced to the underground world of drift racing via little bow-wow, yes he’s in the movie to. You can find out more information at ComingSoon.net

The Mustang was copied five times over for a variety of different scenes throughout the movie. One of the ‘67 Mustangs is powered by a Nissan Skyline Motor RB26DETT (Twin Turbo V6). Another copy of the same ‘67 Mustang has a 430 ci Ford small block which was used for most of the sideways shots. Both Mustangs were said to be lined up at the dragstrip by Hot Rod Magazine and the Nissan powered Mustang ran the quarter mile in 13.32 seconds at 109 MPH. The Ford powered ‘67 Mustang was 1.2 seconds slower. Below are some specs on the Nissan powered Mustang.

2006 Shelby GT-H on The Block

May 27th, 2006 by CobraMatt

Why rent-a-racer when you can buy a 2006 Shelby GT-H. To mark the 40th anniversary of the Shelby GT350H Ford Mustang, Ford Motor Company, Shelby Automobiles, and The Hertz Corporation are creating 500 Shelby GT-H Mustangs with various performance modifications. Those cars will be available to rent very soon except for one that will be auctioned off July 27, during the annual “Gathering of Eagles” fundraiser at EAA AirVenture 2006, which runs July 24-30 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, WI.

The auction proceeds go to support the EAA’s Young Eagles program which is the most successful youth aviation education program ever created, with more than 1.2 million young people flown to date.

“As part of its support of EAA and its programs, Ford Motor Company, in conjunction with Hertz and Shelby Automobiles, is providing a dazzling addition to this year’s Gathering of Eagles auction,” said Tom Poberezny, EAA president and AirVenture chairman. “Aviation enthusiasts enjoy performance both in the air and on the ground, and this Shelby GT-H Mustang certainly will draw much deserved attention for its style and power.”

More information regarding tickets for the Gathering of Eagles is available through the EAA Development Office at 800-236-1025 or by e-mailing development@eaa.org. In addition, there are a limited number of opportunities for bidding on the Shelby GT-H Mustang by those who cannot attend the Gathering of Eagles event in person on July 27. Full information is available online at http://www.airventure.org/gathering .

Black FR500 Wheels For My Cobra

May 25th, 2006 by CobraMatt

I am sure some of you know what I drive but for those who don’t I bought a 2003 SVT Cobra Convertible brand new back in December of 2004. The Cobra was sitting on a Ford dealers lot for almost a year and half before I swooped in and bought it. The car was on Ebay of all places and nobody bid on it so I sent an email to the dealer to inquire about the car. I recieved an email back almost within an hour telling me to make an offer. I made a low ball offer and they replied with when can you pick it up. So I flew up to St. Louis and drove it back to the Dallas. I have had the car for almost 18 months and have only put 8500 miles on it.

For the past 5 months or so I have been sitting on some Black FR500 wheels and have finally saved up enough money to purchase some tires. If you can believe it the tires cost almost double what the wheels sold for. Didn’t it use to be the other way around or have I been living in a time capsule?

Well I chose some Nitto NT555 for both the front and back. For the front I got 285-35-18 and for the back I got 295-45-18. The tires on the back are probably a little to big because most every time I go over any sizeable bump or dip the tires rub. I think in the future I will purchase some smaller tires to fit better but for now I can live with a few wheel rubs.

Classic Design Concepts new directional mirrors give your 05-06 Mustang some added appearance appeal while retaining the OEM look. These new Directional mirrors are created using “Blue” glass and Red LED’s. The “Blue” glass will provide the additional feature of reduced glare when compared to a standard chrome glass mirror while the Red LED’s provide high visibility, a subtle touch for the ultimate result of safety and decreased glare.
