2006 Shelby GT-H Mustang Auctioned Off

And you thought all 500 cars being made were shipped to Hertz to be rented and raced. Well one lucky GT-H Mustang got to become a collectors item right from the start at the EAA Airventure Oshkosh festival in Wisconsin. The 2006 Shelby GT-H edition Mustang was auctioned off by Barrett-Jackson auctioneer “Spanky”, Carroll Shelby and Edsel Ford at the annual ‘Gathering of Eagles’ fundraiser. The winning bid came in at $250,000 and all proceeds from the auction will benefit EAA aviation education initiatives including Young Eagles which is the most successful youth aviation education program ever.

The Shelby GT-H Mustang that was auctioned will probably be the lowest mileage GT-H ever produced since all remaining 499 cars have been shipped to Hertz dealers for renting. Hertz has said all cars will get between 16K-18K miles before they are taken out of service and auctioned off.

“Ford Motor Company’s support of EAA and its programs, in partnership with Hertz and Shelby Automobiles, is supplying a truly dazzling addition to this year’s Gathering of Eagles auction,” said Tom Poberezny, EAA president and AirVenture chairman. “Aviation enthusiasts enjoy performance both in the air and on the ground, and the Shelby GT-H Mustang was a spectacular highlight of the evening.”

“Being the first to auction the new GT-H is history in the making and we felt this was an incredible opportunity for Ford and EAA AirVenture Oshkosh,” said Jill Fannon, manager of Ford Events. “Ford wanted to do something special to support EAA’s programs that build aviation’s future, and what better way than with the hottest Mustang on the street.”
