Ford Unveils 2007 Shelby GT

August 9th, 2006 by CobraMatt

Well I was about week early with my reporting of the new Mustang from Ford and Carroll Shelby because today Ford has unveiled the Shelby GT in the form of a small press release only to say what we have been speculatating on. The Shelby GT will be very similar to that of the GT-H performance and appearance wise. From the picture they released we can see the Shelby GT will have unique silver body stripes, hood pins, unique hood scoop and Shelby badging.

The new Shelby GT is the offspring of the recently released Shelby GT-H that is available for rent at select Hertz dealers across the country. According to Mark Fields the publics reaction to the Shelby GT-H was overwhelming and led Ford to design a Mustang available to the public, that car being the Shelby GT. It will fill the need for a performance Mustang between the standard Mustang GT that has 300 hp and GT500 with 500 hp.

We have also learned the Shelby GT will come with either an automatic or manual transmission, the same 4.6-liter 325 horsepower engine in the GT-H, available in black or white with silver stripes, will be made at the Flat Rock, Michigan plant and Ford will produce about 10K units for 2007.

The Ford Shelby GT will be on sale in January. Ford will reveal full product details this Sunday on its “Bold Moves: The Future of Ford” web-based documentary (www.fordboldmoves.com).
