I Hate F@#%ing Gravel Trucks
September 13th, 2006 by CobraMatt

It finally happend, my Cobra got it’s cherry popped the other day in a big way with two rock chips out of the hood and windshield. I am surprised my Cobra has gone this long without any chips or dents to speak off. The car has been in my possession for almost two years with about 10K on the clock and only a repaint for the bumper because some ass clown parked on my bumper with his 4×4, other than that nothing, nada, no door dings or scratches not even any black tar spots.
It happend as I was driving down the highway to my soccer game the other day. I entered the highway and a gravel truck speeds by which I knew was trouble already because I could see small pieces of gravel and dust floating off the truck, so I pulled as far away from him as possible and tried to speed past him and as I did this 2-3″ rock drops off the truck and it seems like time stood still because I could see the rock in slow motion bouncing along the highway getting closer and closer to my car. I could not do anything about it because the rock was in my lane and I was trapped like rat with nowhere to go. The first words out of my mouth were Oh F#$%! followed but some more choice words and then BANG! BANG! As I lifted my head, yes I ducked like a girl because for some reason I thought a 2-3″ rock could blast through the windshield and hit me, it could happen and you know you have done the same thing before. Anyway to make a long story short the car ended up with a quarter inch chip to the hood and 3 tiny chips out of the windshield (no cracks just chips). I guess I was lucky it did not rattle around the inside of car since I did have the top down.

What is the legal responsibility of these hauling companies? I’ve often had my vehicles hit by dirt or gravel from the trucks and noted the plate and company but not followed through with a complaint. How would you even prove the damage? Seems they have the upper hand.

Yes………..Sir I know what you mean this s…t is a real big problem on the highways, I own a 2006 Pony Package mustang… As I was driving down I 64 I noticed a gravel truck and tried to stay as far back as possible. Then It happened. A rock hummed right into my front grill and busted out my right fog light… Then A few choice word came out my mouth. Took It to the Ford Dealer ” In Hope ” the service warranty would cover It… Noooooooo….This fits under physical damage. The fog light cost me $96.00 to replace, as the lens was not a option, and the whole f….king assembly had to be replaced. Something is got to be done to hold the dumpers responsible for throwing hard dried rock shit at our vehicles. These cars are not cheap on parts, I mean it’s not like we own Fairmonts…hahahaha.

I know too well the danger of gravel trucks. In 1994, I was hit by a gravel truck on the driver’s side of my car and nearly killed. Now, after 13 years of rehab since I came out of the coma, I am no longer confined to a wheelchair and can walk by taking medication and working out hard training other parts of my brain to control my paralyzed left side, but I had to have brain surgery to rid me of my seizures and still need 9 other daily medications for other problems. Also, my memory sucks so I can’t get a decent job and my IQ went from a 126 pre-brain injury (caused by that gravel truck) to a 98, where it is now. GRAVEL TRUCKS SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
