Shelby GT500 Production Increased
May 8th, 2006 by CobraMatt

Ford has increased production of its 2007 Shelby GT500 Mustang to 9,000 units for the year. The increase comes as many speculated that Ford would produce between 7500 and 8500 cars. The increase is due to overwhelming popularity for the GT500. Ford has said all along they will produce as many GT500’s as allows. A big concern for Ford in producing so many GT500’s are with the suppliers and if they can keep up with the demand for parts.
In a letter to Dealers that included the increase production news Ford also is discouraging dealers to put hefty mark-ups on the MSRP of the vehicle. The MSRP has yet to be annouced and should come later in the month. Production of the GT500 is set to begin June 5 with some GT500’s showing up at dealerships in late June.

This is not keeping our dealer from trying to add a 10,000.00 markup to our car. We have had our name on this car for 13 mths. Right after we bought out GT. They are claiming that other dealerships are offering them the money so they are getting the offer and if we don’t pay the extra they will sell them our car. WE ARE A FORD CUSTOMER, WE HAVE BOUGHT 3 NEW FORD VEHICLES IN THE PAST 3 YEARS. TWO DIESEL TRUCKS AND A MUSTANG GT..LOADED…ALL 3… How is that for being loyal to your customers. If they do not sell to us what the sticker price is we will never by from Ford again.

I was considering buying a GT500 but now I have changed my mind. If the dealers want to rip people off and mark up thier cars far over sticker, I won’t buy one…nor will I buy a Ford. The manufacturer should step in and get this under control!

I have long dreamed of owning a Shelby GT 500. I had to
settle for a Shelby GT,(5,000.00 over sticker) because I could not afford the $15,000.00 mark up on the GT 500 the dealerships are charging. SHAME on Ford for letting their dealerships get away with this. I am very disappointed in the Shelby GT, it is not the car I paid for!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will not buy another Ford product because of this.

I am right there with you. I can afford the $43K for the GT500 coupe but not the markup. It kinda pisses me off that Ford a company that is struggling to sell cars lets their dealers do this to the customers who will go elsewhere since they cant buy what they want. It almost makes me want to buy a Corvette or similar sports car.

Tell me about it. I had been haunting the dealerships since 2006 asking about the GT500. The answer I always got was ‘the information has not been released yet.’ Then lo and behold they do have ‘information’ its ’sorry but they are all pre-ordered since Ford is limiting us.’
But this dealership had on the floor a bright red GT500 convertible at the amazing price of $73,000. So I settled on a GT/CS, added two quarter window scoops which makes it look more like what a GT500 coupe should look like, and now pondering the Shelby suspension package. And six months after my purchase, the bright red GT500 convertible is still sitting at the dealership.
I one time asked an owner of an original Shelby GT350 convertible if he would buy one of the new GT500s, he said after they removed the markup. Hello Ford, get your dealerships under control.

I agree with all you guys, ford has to know how their dealership are taking advantage of their loyal customers. Ford has until the Challenger comes out to get their crooks under control; if not by then I will look at buying the Challenger and if dodge acts like Ford then I will look for a used Z06. Bottom line the ball is in Fords court, if they elect not to play I will never by another Ford.
