The California Special Returns as 2007 Model
January 16th, 2006 by CobraMatt

Not many people of my generation have heard or even seen a California Special Edition Mustang but both will be happening soon enough as Ford has plans to build a California Special Mustang as a 2007 Model. Within the last five years Ford has brought back specialty models from the past like the Bullitt and Mach1 with great success and this time they will be betting on the California Special.
The California Special was a Limited Edition Mustang model produced for the 1968 model run at the San Jose, CA plant. The CS Mustang was based on the Shelby Mustang GT that was planned to be built, but was never actually produced. The California Special sprouted from these cancelled Shelby GT plans and became a base model hardtop mustang with some added body components and mid-body striping. The CS Mustang came with a special interior decor trim and exterior decor trim package. The exterior also had a “ducktail” spoiler, 1965 Thunderbird tail lights, and a mid-body tape stripe. More information about the 1968 California Special visit CaliforniaSpecial.com.
The 2007 California Special Mustang is said to be available in coupe and convertible form and a throwback to the original. A list of options for the 2007 GT/CS Mustang are below:
- Hood Scoop
- Side Scoops
- Re-Designed Front Fascia
- GT/CS Decals along the front fender and door
- Custom Intake Engine Cover
- Heated Two-Tone Leather
- Rearview Mirror with Compass
- Possible Ducktail Spoiler
