mustanggt500kr_blog.jpg

Wells folks the KING is back, Ford made it official by announcing the 2008 Shelby GT500 KR Mustang will return in the spring of 2008 for the 40th anniversary of the original.  The 2008 Shelby GT500 KR Mustang will feature a 540 horsepower 5.4L supercharged V8 with Ford Racing’s Power Pack upgrade (tune and cold air intake system), 3.73:1 rear axle ratio, short throw shifter and a beefed up suspension to handle all those ponies. The exterior of this beast will get a unique Carbon composite hood, 18-inch wheels and special 40th Anniversary badging along with GT500 KR striping.  Other features include front brake cooling ducts, a 40th Anniversary dash plate, SHELBY lettering across the hood and a Ford Racing performance exhaust system.

The GT500 KR will be limited to just 1000 units with an MSRP expected to start above $50K. With the dealer markup I would guess $75K-$85K since this limited-edition is truly limited.  More information, specs and high-resolution photos after the jump. According to Car and Driver Ford will be making a big splash at the New York Auto Show by unveiling a 2008 Shelby KR limited edition Mustang. This will be yet another limited edition Mustang added to the stable of ponies already available at Ford Dealerships nationwide.  As of now nothing is known of the vehicle only that C&D is reporting it will be unveiled.  I will update this post as more news leaks out.

***UPDATE****
A few sources have confirmed that Ford will be uveiling the Shelby GT500 KR Mustang at the New York International Auto Show the week of April 8th but nothing has been said what car will be rolling across the auction block at Barrett-Jackson this weekend. It could be the GT500 KR #001 or the Shelby GT-H #001, nobody really knows. Check out this video below, Carroll Shelby confirms the Shelby GT500 KR is coming to New York. Stay tuned for more info on both models.

GT500 FR Mustang Spotted In Dearborn, Michigan

March 28th, 2007 by CobraMatt

You are reading the title right, a GT500 FR which stands for Ford Racing was spotted roaming the streets of Dearborn, Michigan.  Over at BlueOvalNews somebody got a video and still images of this beast as it stopped for a fill up at a gas station. A few things I noticed from the video was the Ford Racing windsheild decal, no Shelby lettering, GT500 FR decals & side stripes, Racing style seats with safety belts, hood pins, painted mirrors and is that a nitrous bottle or fire entingusher in the back seat.

Could this be the next Cobra ‘R’ model from Ford, dubbed GT500 FR. Your guess is as good as mine but don’t get your hopes up because this could just be a big fraud or somebody customizing their own car to have a unique look. If anybody has any insight please post in the comments.

One-Of-A-Kind BlackJack ROUSH Convertible Sells For $225K

March 27th, 2007 by CobraMatt

roushconvertible.jpg

While I was away on vacation ROUSH dropped news about building a one-of-a-kind BlackJack convertible Stage 3 Mustang to be auctioned off for charity at the Celebrity Fight Night event in Phoenix, Arizona on March 24th in cooperation with Sanderson Ford of Glendale, AZ.  According to ROUSH they originally thought they were only going to build all coupes but decided otherwise.  The auction has come and gone and the vehicle sold for $225K to a lucky anonymous bidder, probably Arizona businessman Ron Pratte who has bought just about every other rare Mustang on the planet.  The convertible BlackJack Mustang is serialized with Lucky number 13.  For all the details on this one-of-a-kind vehicle check out ROUSH’s press release after the jump. Mustang Memorabilia Collection You Will Not Believe

March 27th, 2007 by CobraMatt

You have to check out this Mustang memorabilia collectors garage in Wisconsin who from the looks of it has obtained every piece of Mustang memorobilia on the planet.  The Mustang fanatic is Scott Moen from Southeastern, WI who began collecting his Mustang memorabilia some 16 years ago.  Up until the year 2000 Scott’s collection was stored in his basement and extra room in the house.  In 2000 he began construction of a second garage to house his two Mustangs (’04 Mach 1 and ‘84 20th annv. conv.) and growing Mustang toy and memorabilia collection because Scott and his wife had a son who needed the extra room in the house.

The second garage is 20′ wide x 36′ deep and is mostly carpeted except for an 8′ wide strip where both Mustangs are parked.  If you take a look at the pictures you will understand why the additional garage was needed.  The collection which is displayed in sort of a museum type fashion contains 3000+ model Mustangs, various photos, banners, posters, signs, clothing, hats, keychains, Mustang dealership displays and anything you can think of related to the Ford Mustang.  The garage features cathedral ceilings with recessed lightning and two ceiling fans. The entire garage is insulated, drywalled and features A/C and heat.  This truly is an unbelievalbe collection of Mustang memorabilia.

After the jump I have posted a nice gallery of photos for you to view what the collection looks like. Continue reading ‘Mustang Memorabilia Collection You Will Not Believe’

Valentine Mustang Cruise Set For 2008 on Carnival

March 26th, 2007 by CobraMatt

valentinecruise.jpg

I have been out of town for the past week on vacation and I am back to spread the good Ford Mustang word again.  I was in the middle of nowhere Missouri and the only internet connection where I was staying was dial up and it took me 15 minutes the first day to check my email so I swore off the internet until I got back to my good ole cable connection.

Since my last post there has been some news in the Mustang world including this little piece about a 7-day Cruise specifically for Ford Mustang lovers in February of 2008 on Carnivals Valor Cruise Ship.  I personally have never been on a cruise so not sure how they are, but a cruise to Alaska sounds like it would more fun then one in the sun.  I get enough sun here in Texas and I need a change.

The Mustang Valentine Day Cruise will feature a bunch of Mustang events aboard the ship including three seminars by noted Mustang publishers, enthusiasts and business owners along with various contests and prize giveaways.  Sounds like it would a cool cruise to go on especially if you are a big Mustang fan and enjoy talking Mustangs.  Read more about the cruise and what it will cost to get you on the boat after the jump. March 25th, 2007 by CobraMatt

steeda_autosports.jpg

Steeda, one of the best known aftermarket manufacturers for Ford Mustang performance parts has announced they are packing up and moving from their current location in Pompono Beach, Florida to Valdosta, Georgia.  Steeda is planning a new $10 million, 100,000 square-foot facility in Valdosta that will bring up to 100 jobs to the area.  Dario Orlando who founded Steeda in 1988 said the new location makes distribution ideal with a location near Interstate 10 and I-75.  Other locations considered for the move included North Carolina, Alabama and various cities in Georgia.

***Update***
Our one and only commenter is exactly right, Steeda will be moving all manufacturing and engineering to Valdosta and keeping there administration in the Pompano Beach office.  Steeda has also come out with a press release with more info that includes a few details of the new facility.  To summarize for you, the new 25 acre campus will include manufacturing, engineering and distribution along with a skid pad, slalom course and test track. The campus should be operational in 18 months and will initially employ 40 to 50 people, with 100 employees hired over 36 months.  For more check out the press release

The “Stang” Handbags For The Ladies

March 20th, 2007 by CobraMatt

stang_handbags.jpg

I have to give credit to my wife for finding this story about the “Stang” handbags because I would have just skpped right over it.  She was reading the latest issue of Mustang Monthly like a good wife should and came across the article about Amy Isenhour who started Brown Eyes Motor Company to produce automotive inspired handbags.  Amy’s creative touch and her passion for Mustangs led her to create a line of Mustang handbags that resemble some of the classic Mustang interiors of the 60’s.  Her original steering wheel handle is very unique and unlike any so my wife says.  Some of the bags are made with NOS fabrics and authentic Mustang badges to give them a nostalgic look and feel.  The bags range in price from $220-$250 and are custom made with original parts.  If you need a b-day gift for the wife, girlfriend or mistress this might be the way to go. Check out Amy’s site at Aidesigns.biz.
