An Idaho teenager was out to prove the top speed of a 2006 Mustang GT when he passed an Oregon State Policemen going 153 mph in a stolen 2006 Mustang GT. The chase lasted for some 28 miles with the teen averaging speeds of 130 mph for most of the chase. The chase ended like most do these days with the Mustang GT rolling over a spike strip. This new air intake system from K&N adds a mind boggling 53.71 horsepower to the allready potent Shelby GT500. The K&N 63-series AirCharger intake system was developed specifically for the GT500’s 5.4 liter V8 engine. K&N claims the horsepower gains are no BS and they have the dyno numbers to prove it. Installation for this air intake system can be done in under 90 minutes and can usually be done by most fifth graders, if you can’t install this then you have bigger problems. On the latest episode of the british motoring show Top Gear, host Richard Hammond reviews the GT500 yet again to try and stir things up over horsepower shortcomings the GT500 does not have. According to Hammond who in the video brought out his own Shelby GT390 to compare to the Shelby GT500 says with a surprised look the actual horsepower the Shelby GT500 really produces is 447 which he came by using a portable dyno while at a road course track. What most of us already know is that the 447 is the horsepower making it to the wheels and not the flywheel number which is 10%-20% more. He is trying to mislead his viewers to make the GT500 look bad for unknown reasons. Continue reading ‘Top Gear Bashes The GT500 Over Horsepower Ratings’

And we all thought Mustangs were selling like hotcakes, well they are to a point but according to the data below Mustang sales are starting to dip a little even with all the specialty models and incentives. Sales of the Mustang for February of this year were 10,772, compared to 13,367 in February of 2006, a 19.4% decline. For the two months of this year (2007) Ford has sold 19,836 Mustangs compared to the 2006 total for January and February of 24,575, which is a 19.3% decline. These kinds of declines might not throw up any red flags just yet because these declines might be typical for a vehicle that has been on the market 2-3 years, although it might be time for a refreshning or even another redesign to help sales get back on track.
Episode 2 of the Jacks Toys series from his “Toy” museum in Livonia, Michigan. This episode features Mr. Roush talking about the 2001 Bullitt Mustang how he came to own Bullitt Number 1. It’s another good episode but I wish these videos would last a little longer, this one is only 1:20, hardly enough time to talk about each car.
While browsing the forums at SVTPerformance I found this poor guy who waited a year and half to get his Shelby GT500 and then added some custom wheels only to be hit by a drunk driver in the rear at 50 mph. It sure is sad to see this kind of stuff but we are just glad the driver is ok. Check out the thread over at SVTPerformance to read more about the accident. Another photo after the jump. I have been looking for photos of the 2007 Shelby GT500 navigation system for a few weeks and finally somebody posted a few pics over at Brads Mustang site. There are just two photos, one of the main screen that pops up when you start the car and another of how the radio controls look when the radio is playing. The touch-screen navigation option for the Shelby GT500 will cost you $1995 if you are lucky enough to get an order in for a Shelby. The option is also offered for the 2007 Mustang GT and Shelby GT for the same price. More photos after the jump. Continue reading ‘2007 Shelby GT500 Navigation System Photos’
