*** UPDATE ***

I originally posted about this Bullitt on April 19 and the car has been for sale for almost a month now but the owner has decided to go the Ebay route and auction it off.  Click here to see the auction.

*** UPDATE ***

I know everybody has seen the picture of the 2001 Bullitt Jumping in the streets of San Fransisco but you may not know the story behind the photo and who was driving the car that day.  Well it was Steve McQueen’s son Chad who was in the drivers seat for the famous San Fransisco Jump to introduce the 2001 Bullitt Mustang.  The car is serialized with #0034 out of 5582 Bullitts made in 2001.

After the media event with the jump the car was sent back to Ford for a throrough inspection to make sure everything was in good working order.  It then circulated through Ford exces and press people before being auctioned off.  In 2005 at an MCA Mission: Mustang National Show Scott Hoag, who was the program manager of the Bullitt and owner of #0001 Bullitt Mustang discovered the car when he saw the serial number was #0034.  After looking the car over he confirmed it was the actual jump car and provided the owner with a certificate of authenticity.  The car is also listed in the Bullitt Registry

The current owner, a member (Mberglo) of Brads Mustang Site who hails from Huntsville, AL has decided it’s time to sell and has posted it on the forums. A few mods have been added since the current owner took possession including a set of 3.73 gears, Speedcal, Steeda Tri-ax shifter, and a catless x-pipe.  He has all the OEM parts to restore the car back to its original condition. The asking price is reasonable for collectable car like this at $15K.  If you have any interest you can contact the current owner by email at dorner_mail@yahoo.com.

One of the most well known specialty vehicle manufacturers of my time Steve Saleen has announced his retirement from Saleen Inc. a company he started back in 1983.  Saleen is stepping down from the day-to-day operations and the company’s executive team but will remain on at the company to act as a corporate spokesperson and ambassador for the Saleen brand.  Saleen being a major shareholder will still have a big influence over future products, branding and other activities related to the business.

For more about Steve Saleen retiring check out the press release from Saleen after the jump. Continue reading ‘Say It Ain’t So, Steve Saleen Retires From Saleen Inc.’

2008 Bullitt Mustang Specs and Information Leaked

May 14th, 2007 by CobraMatt

2008bullitt.jpg

Not sure this is how Ford would like details of their 2008 Bullitt Mustang released but you can’t keep something bottled up forever. Over at Brads Mustang Site a forum member has posted what he says are the real specifications and information about the mid-year 2008 Bullitt Mustang and they are very dissapointing to alot of Mustang fans who had high hopes for this next generation Bullitt.

In the performance department the stock 4.6L engine will recieve a Ford Racing performance pack to bump horsepower to 312, falling short of the 350-400 horsepower thought by many.  The suspension for the Bullitt will get an upgraded steering system, shock/strut tuning and a strut tower brace.  The interior will get custom leather sport seating, unique sill plates and bright metal trim along with a custom shifter. For the exterior the 2008 Bullitt will only be available in Highland Green or Black with a unique V6 style grille, rear faux gas cap with Bullitt logo, 18″ Bullitt style wheels and red brake calipers.  Other modifications include a 3.73 rear axle and X-pipe exhaust with bright tips.  No word on price just yet but Ford plans to produce 7,700 units for the US and Canada. AutoBlog.com Freelance Writer Frank Filipponio Involved In Fatal Shelby GT500 Wreck

May 14th, 2007 by CobraMatt

gt500_wreck_1.jpg

When I read the original story about a 2007 Shelby GT500 Convertible driver losing control and leaving the roadway killing a pedestrian in Newport Beach I saw the driver was a 37-year old man named Frank Filipponio not thinking anything about who that person really was.  It did cross my mind at the time that someone with a similar name wrote over at AutoBlog.com and it now has been confirmed that the driver was freelance writer Frank Filipponio who blogs at AutoBlog.com.

Frank was driving a Vista Blue 2007 Shelby GT500 Convertible press fleet vehicle in Crystal Cove State Park probably to give a review of the vehicle for AutoBlog.  When he was driving the car around 7pm Wednesday May 2nd he lost control of the vehicle while attempting to shift between gears and went off Pacific Coast Highway killing a 48-year old female pedestrian walking on the path parallel to the road.  According to police no drugs or alcohol was involved in the crash.  Frank was treated for a few minor injuries at the hospital and was later released. More photos of the accident after the jump. Continue reading ‘AutoBlog.com Freelance Writer Frank Filipponio Involved In Fatal Shelby GT500 Wreck’

New Product: Street Scene Equipment Black Out Panel

May 10th, 2007 by CobraMatt

strretscene.jpg

Street Scene Equipment has a new product out for S197 Mustang crowd in the form of a black out panel for center section of the rear valance.  The black out panel (part# 950-73750) covers up everything except the key hole and has sort of a stealth look to it.The panel uses durable ABS plastic with a factory style texture and attaches to the rear valance with special adhesives for easy installation.  The panel can be ordered for GT and V6 models, no word yet on cost but Street Scene says it’s priced competitively.

Ebay: Greedy Ford Stealership Has 14 Shelby’s In Stock

May 9th, 2007 by CobraMatt

greedy_dealership.jpg

I know I have beat this horse to death complaining about how stealerships are so greedy charging these rediculous markups on the Shelby GT500’s but I thought this auction on Ebay was worth mentioning.  According to the auction details Spitzer Ford in Hartville, OH has 14 Shelby’s in stock.  I know the photo shows only eight and one GT-H but I am really curious to see how many GT500’s they have on the lot.  This is not the first auction I have seen for this dealership auctioning their GT500’s.  With their feedback only at one and the same cars showing up on Ebay you can probably assume they are your typical greedy stealership asking way to much.  See the auction for yourself.

Installing A Factory Navigation System Into 2005 Stang

May 9th, 2007 by CobraMatt

navigation_2005.jpg

While surfing the many Mustang forums I visit on a daily basis yesterday I came across a thread over at themustangsource.com where forum member ‘mrkabc’ replaced the stock Shaker 1000 head unit out of his 2005 Mustang convertible with a brand new factory Navigation unit.  Up until this year navigation units were not available to order on your Mustang and are now available on most models including the GT500.

According to the thread installation can be handled with some basic hand tools and can be completed in about 1.5 hours.  The tools needed are a 7mm nutdriver, phillips screwdriver and a panel puller.  The installation is very well documented with high-res photos at each step.  Check out the installation here.

Ford & Estee Lauder Join Forces For Mustang Cologne

May 8th, 2007 by CobraMatt

For all you Mustang guys out there that have a little body odor you might want to check out this new cologne from Ford and Estee Lauder called ‘Mustang’ named after the car.  The new fragrance has yet to hit the market but according to Estee Lauder it is meant “….to appeal to ‘retrosexuals’ — a guy’s guy, the opposite of a metrosexual. This isn’t a car fragrance. It’s a lifestyle brand.“.

You might ask yourself what does ‘Mustang’ cologne smell like, well according to Trudi Loren, vice president of corporate fragrance development worldwide for the Estée Lauder Cosmetics it’s characterized as a “rugged oriental” whatever the hell that means.  For us country folk it means it has lavender, ginger and lemon; a hint of pipe tobacco (just what my wife wants to smell on me) and cedar wood, and a drydown of amber, fir balsam and patchouli round out the scents.
