2008 Saleen S302 Extreme Coming With 600 HP

July 26th, 2007 by CobraMatt

saleen-transformers.jpg

It seems like Saleen’s brand is more prominent then ever with a role in the Summer blockbuster ‘Transformers via an S281 Extreme and a recent appearance on HBO’s hit show ‘Entourage’ via a Twin Turbo S7.  The S281 Extreme is by far the most impressive aftermarket Mustang to date cranking out 550 horsepower but that title can only last for so long as Saleen is replacing the S281 Extreme with a 2008 Saleen S302 Extreme model pumping out 600 plus horsepower.  The S302 Extreme will have a very similar 302 cubic-inch motor to that of the limited-edition Parnelli Jones model with an added twist, a supercharger will be added to the S302 to make the 600 plus ponies.  As for more information about the 2008 S302 Saleen is keeping us at bay until late Summer rolls around when they will releae specs, photos and more info on it.

I have added a few photos after the jump along with the informal press release about the S302 Extreme. Continue reading ‘2008 Saleen S302 Extreme Coming With 600 HP’

New K&N Direct Replacement Filter For Shelby GT500

July 25th, 2007 by CobraMatt

kn_airfilter_gt500.jpg

The most powerful Mustang on the road is the Shelby. With 450-plus horsepower, the 5.4 liter 32-valve V8 is similar to the engine in the GT. Ford designed a new low-profile intake manifold to fit under the special hood for this state-of-the-art performance car.

K&N Engineering has designed a washable, reusable, panel air filter (33-2365) for the 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby 5.4 liter V8 engine. K&N Air Filters flow more air safely. We found an optimal blend of high air flow, filtration efficiency, durability and dust capacity. Our goal is to design filters with the maximum possible airflow achievable while providing excellent engine protection. Continue reading ‘New K&N Direct Replacement Filter For Shelby GT500′

Here is the story about the Terlingua Racing Team making a comeback, I am to tired to write anything about it so just enjoy the press release below and give me your thoughts if you have any in the comments.

Shelby Automobiles, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc., (CSBI.PK) and designer/artist Bill Neale are returning the legendary Terlingua Racing Team to the forefront of the grassroots racing community. The team will explore opportunities to develop products similar to the Shelby program in the mid 1960s.

“We were a bunch of young hot rodders when we formed the Shelby Terlingua Racing Team,” noted Carroll Shelby, Founder of Shelby Automobiles. “Most people think our group disappeared because we took our activities underground when my company stopped building GT350’s and GT500’s. Now that Shelby Autos is working with Ford again to build high performance cars, its time to put the Shelby Terlingua Racing Team back into the spotlight. We asked Bill Neale, who was a co-founder of the group, to help us create cars and products for serious young enthusiasts who want both fun and performance.” Continue reading ‘Shelby Terlingua Racing Team Making A Comeback’

Several people on various Mustang boards have spotted Grabber Orange Mustangs at the Shelby Autos plant in Las Vegas recently just sitting outside in the parking lot and many have speculated the cars were going to be built for the Terlingua Racing team which is making a comeback.  Actually those Grabber Orange Mustang GT’s are going to be made into 2008 Shelby GT’s with Silver stripes with a production run of 300 units.  The cars will only be available through Southern California Ford Dealerships. So if you don’t live in SoCal and lust over one of these I would check Ebay fairly soon to get one.  For now you will just have to imagine what a Grabber Orange Shelby GT looks like as no photos have surfaced yet.

Final Production Numbers For 2007 Shelby GT500

July 25th, 2007 by CobraMatt

2007_shelby_production.jpg

I know I am going to catch flack over this post from somebody because where I got the numbers is a mystery to me. I was browsing the many Mustang forums I always do and copied a few lines of text from a post about an email somebody got back from Ford on the production numbers of the 2007 Shelby GT500. It seems like a pretty reliable forum post so we will roll with it.

According to the thread 7828 Shelby GT500 coupes and 2543 GT500 convertibles were built for 2007 plus an additional 6 cars were lost to crash testing and so forth. That brings the grand total of Shelby GT500 production to 10,377.

Shelby’s Foundation A Little Skimpy on Donations

July 23rd, 2007 by CobraMatt

*** UPDATE ***

*Carroll Shelby Fires Back With Response To His Foundation*

His repsonse came via a letter to the publisher of Autoweek which can be read at the end of this article.

carrollshelby11.jpg

I just read a great article on AutoWeek.com by Kathy Jackson about Carroll Shelby’s Children’s Foundation and how donations have been a little on the low side for the years 2002-05.  According to the article and the foundation’s tax documents, from 2002 to 2005, it’s net assets grew from $1.6 million to $2.9 million. Yet in each of those years less than 1 percent of those assets were given out as charitable grants, a level that charity professionals say is embarrassingly low.

Although this might seem low due to some standards they are within the law as most of the funds come from public donations.  Law or not this seems a little shaky given the amount of money that comes in, when I think of a non-profit organization I believe most of the money less the expenses that come in go out to whatever the organization represents.  This foundation may be within the law but they are not conducting their operations with any charity in mind.

Read the entire article after the jump and make your own assumptions… Continue reading ‘Shelby’s Foundation A Little Skimpy on Donations’

Molly Saleen Enters The Great American Run With Her 500 Horsepower Molly-Pop S281

July 18th, 2007 by CobraMatt

molly-pop_saleen1.jpg

Steve Saleen’s daughter Molly Saleen will enter her custom 500 horsepower Molly-pop S281 Mustang in The Great American Run later this month.  Read all about it below in the press release.  I have also added a few pictures of her and the car.

Press Release:

If you see a flash of hot pink whilst travelling the east coast of America later this month, be sure to make room for Molly Saleen and her candy coloured, customised automobile. With 3000 miles of road ahead and America’s premiere car manufacturing dynasty sizzling pink all around her, Molly Saleen and her Molly-Pop Mustang are likely to be in a hurry. After all, Burt Reynolds didn’t hang around as he made Hollywood History with the ever-popular Cannonball Run made during his Hollywood heydays of the 1980s.

Set to be re-enacted on July 29th with the inaugural running of the Great American Run road rally, the Molly-Pop bristles with more attitude than Reynolds could ever muster in the slapstick road trip celluloid. Formerly a modest stock S281-SC, the Mustang has undergone more image changes than Madonna. It now wields 500bhp, 475 lbs-ft of torque and shines with star quality thanks to Saleen engineered Watts Link style suspension and Saleen designed aerodynamics. Lear & FoMoCo Join Forces on Seat Foam Made From Soy-Based Materials

July 13th, 2007 by CobraMatt

soy_seat.jpg

It seems to be all the rage these days, trying to go green with products that are better for the environment and Ford Motor Company being one of the most scrutinized companies could use the good publicity.  FoMoCo has teamed up with Lear Corporation to produce seat foam made from soy-based materials on the 2008 Mustang.  You might wonder why Ford is doing this and your answer lies with the environmental advantages that are plentiful which include a reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions compared to the current petroleum-based material, lower energy to produce, up to 24% renewable content and a reduction of dependecy on volatile energy markets.

This is not the first time Ford has incorporated soy-based materials into their cars.  Actually way back when, the Model T contained some 60 pounds of soybeans in its paint and molded plastic parts.  This is definately a win win for all parties involved including mother nature.

More news on the soy-based seat foam and Fords involvement can be found after the jump in the press release. Continue reading ‘Lear & FoMoCo Join Forces on Seat Foam Made From Soy-Based Materials’
