It’s almost that time of year again, time for one of my favorite events, the 37th annual Barrett Jackson Collector Car Auction. The 2008 Barrett-Jackson auction takes place every year in the middle of January in Scottsdale, Arizona and for car collectors it’s the Super Bowl of auto auctions. This auction draws out collectors and celebrities from all over the world. This years auction is being held on January 12 - 20th and will encompass special events, displays and activites for everybody who attends. A schedule of events can be found at Barrett-Jackson.com along with ticket and other information.
Some of you might know that I have attended the last few years but this one I will have to sit out due to some previous commitments. Don’t worry though Speed will have great coverage for the whole auction and with TIVO it makes for some nice late night viewing.
This years auction is much of the same with just a shade under 100 Mustangs and Shelbys that will go on the auction block for the 2008 show with live auctions starting January 15 and carrying through the 20th.
Some of the highlighted Mustangs on the auction block this year include Carroll Shelby’s personal 1969 Shelby GT500 Convertible, a 2008 Shelby GT500KR #001, Patrick Dempsey’s FR500C Racecar, the 2007 Shelby GT500 Anniversary Prototype along with many 60’s era Shelby GT500 & GT350’s.
Speed Channel will be covering the whole event from January 12th through the final auction on January 20th. Live coverage of auctions will take place just like previous years. After the jump you will find the complete list of Mustangs including their lot numbrs, auction day and link to more information on each model. Enjoy…. The 2008 Steeda QS6 is the right car at the right time, at least thats what Steeda thinks. With gas prices hovering around $3/gallon in several states most V8 Mustang owners are feeling it in the wallet. Some V8 Mustang owners may be able to whether the storm while others are selling their gas guzzling V8’s for other vehicles that get better gas mileage.
One answer could be to get a Honda but if your a loyal Mustang owner then there is only one way to go and thats down to a V6. If you have to have a Mustang then Steeda has the answer, their Steeda QS6 Mustang has a V6 engine that puts down 355 horsepower and 365 ft. lbs. of torque by way of a roots type supercharger sitting atop the V6 powerplant. Other standard features to the Steeda QS6 include Cold Air Induction Kit, a Custom Steeda Tune, 14″ front and 13″ rear braking system, stainless axle-back exhaust, Steeda suspension goodies, short throw shifter, steeda ultralite wheels and more.
If you are not interested in the whole QS6 package don’t worry Steeda is rolling out V6 specific parts that can be purchased separately to fit individual styles.
If you can believe it we are only three months away from the start of the 2008 Fun Ford Weekend season at the Orlando Speed World Dragway where the events kick off each year. It’s the 18th year for Fun Ford Weekend events around the country and this year it will make 10 stops starting in Orlando, Florida and ending at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis with the Ford Mustang World Finals.
Here is a short teaser promo that was aired by NBC for the Knight Rider tv show coming next month. The two-hour premiere event will star Justin Bruening as Michael Knight’s son and Will Arnett of Arrested Development fame will be the voice of KITT. KITT will be as most of you know a Shelby GT500KR. The show will also include David Hasselhoff who starred in the original Knight Rider.
A list of 25 movies including ‘Bullitt’ have been added to the National Film Registry’s list which now contains some 475 movies. The ‘Bullitt’ movie was selected by the Librarian of Congress to be preserved for all of time. Movies added to the list are chosen for their artistic character, historical significance or their reflection of both the good and bad sides of American culture and the film ‘Bullitt’ did just that. The historic scene from the movie was a car chase that lasted 11 minutes through the streets of San Francisco between Lt. Frank Bullitt’s (Steve McQeeen) Ford Mustang and a Dodge Charger. The historical significance of this film was brought about by British director Peter Yates who decided to shoot the film in San Francisco rather then Los Angeles or New York City which eventually turned the Bay area into a prime location for future movie shoots.
Other movies included in the 25 are ‘Back To The Future’, ‘Dances With Wolves’, ‘12 Angry Men’ and the musical ‘Oklahoma’.
Fans of the new Transformers movie can buy a replica of Barricade, the Saleen police car in the movie from McDonald Ford in Michigan. The 2007 Saleen Mustang pictured above was built by Saleen Inc, to promote the movie but some changes have been made to the vehicle to make it available for public use like the removal of the lightbar and the 911 decal which now reads “411″. Other differences include the saying “To punhish and enslave” has been replaced with “Power in the hands of a few”. All the Saleen goodies including the supercharger and racecraft suspension are included on this replica which you can own if you want to pony up the money. The auction is up to $40K as of writing this and the reserve has not been met.
Well as you can probably tell by the photo and title of this entry my recently purchased 1992 Mustang Convertible has started to leak. I think the big giveaway is the Halloween candy bowl acting as a drip bucket in my front passenger seat but thats the only thing I could find in a driving rainstorm on short notice the other night. Yes I could have pulled the car into the garage but taking out the Cobra after I just washed it was not an option so she sat in the driveway leaking into the candy bowl.
Now when I purchased the car it did not leak but I knew the top had to be replaced as it’s pretty worn along with it being the original top. So from what I have been reading on different forums convertible top installation is best done by the pros and not by the weekend warrior with basic handtools.
This all happend before the holidays so getting it somewhere to be replaced was pretty much out of the question and then stomaching the cost is another issue. I did make a call to one well respected shop in my area and I was given a quote in the range of $800-$1K for replacing the top and back window depending on what extra parts that were needed. Never having to replace a convertible top I am unsure what a fair price is so I guess I am looking for some answers, if anybody has had their top replaced or knows what the typical price is post them up in the comments and let me know. Thanks in advance.
The 510 horsepower ROUSH P-51A Mustang was unveiled in October at the annual SEMA show as the most powerfull Mustang ROUSH has ever built. With that title comes instant popularity as we have seen with the GT500 and according to ROUSH it took just moments after the unveiling for the phones to start ringing asking how buyers could get ahold of the car.
With the post-announcement interest in the P-51A Mustang it did not take long for ROUSH management to up the production from 100 units to 151. Allthough the order banks have not opened and will not until January sometime ROUSH is taking a bit of a gamble the horsepower hungry public will come calling.
The ROUSH P-51A Mustang will not just be another run of the mill ROUSH with a body kit and a roots-type supercharger. ROUSH is actually tearing apart the motor and upgrading internal engine components of the 4.6L 3V motor. The internal components being upgraded include a forged steel eight-bolt crankshaft, forged aluminum pistons and forged steel H-Beam connecting rods. According to ROUSH these upgraded parts are necessary for the stock Ford engine to withstand the additional power coming from the ROUSHcharger supercharger system.
Galpin Auto Sports who is behind MTV’s pimp my ride was tapped by the Susan G. Komen foundation to build a custom one-of-a-kind Mustang to be given away as a grand prize in the Warriors in Pink Mustang Sweepstakes.
The “Galpinzied” Warriors in Pink convertible Mustang features custom pink rally stripes over black paint with a Warriors in Pink logo hand painted on the back. Other custom touches for the exterior include painting the headlight splitters pink, adding a custom grille and spoiler. Galpin also dropped the ride height of the Mustang with a lowered sport suspension and added matching twenty-inch pink and black wheels. To spruce up the interior Galpin added a Kenwood navigation system with 7-inch touch screen, bluetooth capabilities and an iPod adapter. The seats are plush pink suede with breast cancer awareness ribbons on the headrests to set the interior off.
Knight Rider will be making a comeback to network tv in Februay with a two-hour premiere movie and the star of the show will be KITT, a Shelby GT500KR. The new KITT will come in three different modes, HERO, ATTACK and a camouflage version. KITT was designed by Galpin Auto Sports out of California in only one week under intense guidlines.
