I came across this interesting article on the first production Mustang on AutoWeek.com written by Roger Hart. The article asks the question is the Mustang pictured above which sits in the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan really the first production Mustang or was Ford not even suppose to sell it in the first place. Some will say without a doubt its the first production Mustang because of it’s 100001 VIN but Randy Paddock of ClassicMusclecars.com says not so fast. The article goes on to tell the side of Randy Paddock and why he thinks he has the first Mustang that was suppose to be sold to the public. It’s definately worth the time reading as it contains alot of history. Check it out here.
Check out these new ROUSH vent gauge pods for mounting some extra gauges on your S197 stang. They kinda remind me of when Saleen came out with something similar for the fox-body vents, it was definately the must have aftermarket option back then even if your gauges were not hooked up. The ROUSH vent mounted gauges look oh so cool and they don’t even obstruct any airflow from the A/C system although just straight forward airflow is all you get, hey it’s something. The vent pods cost just $29.99 and will take standard 2-1/16 inch gauges. No cutting or drilling is required to install the vent gauge pods which install in minutes.
According to a CBS news affiliate in Dallas the state and local police have wrapped up their investigation into Unique Performance with the Farmers Branch Police Department preparing 25 felony cases against the executives including owner Doug Hasty.
It’s all up to the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office to take those cases to the grand jury. Of those 25 felony cases it’s unknown how many will actually be brought against the execs. “It’s a complicated case, so once they go over all the cases that were presented to them, then they’ll decide the appropriate charges to file,” explains Cpl. Chad Taylor with the Farmers Branch Police Department.
For now it’s just a waiting game to see what charges if any will be brought against the exces of Unique Performance. For full coverage of the continuing saga that is Unique Performance check out CBS 11’s articles and photos here.
Ford Motor company is recalling some 470,000 S197 Mustangs built from 2005-08 to recalibrate how forcefully the air bag deploys on the front passenger side of the car. Ford spokesman Wesley Sherwood said internal testing showed air bags could injure a small, unbelted passenger. Sherwood also says no reports of injuries or accidents are tied to this recall.
Customers will be notified in early March by mail at which time they can take thier car to a local dealer to have the air bag recalibrated to deploy at a lower force.
Drew over at Modern Mustang Muscle sent us a tip about a new product Saleen is set to announce for S197 Mustang owners, the ShakerCharger. The ShakerCharger from Saleen will sit directly above the twin-screw supercharger to provide S197 owners with a functional shaker hood scoop and forced induction. The ShakerCharger hood scoop assembly is made from injection molded plastic, contains a high-flow air filter that is 50% larger then the OEM filter and requires a cutout in the hood to be installed. No prices have been released nor any official details but look for these kits to be available sometime in May.
Valvoline got together two of the biggest names in the Mustang aftermarket for “The Great American Pony Car Shootout” which pitted a 2008 ROUSH 427R going up against a 2008 SALEEN S281. Both cars were taken from the showroom floor of a DFW Ford Dealership and put through a full battery of tests, including 0-100-0 mph to check acceleration and braking, a slalom course and hot lops around Thunder Hill Raceway located just South of Austin, Texas. The video is very well done and has lots of graphics so you know who the big winner is. Check out the video above.
For one 2003 Cobra owner who was caught street racing illegally in Charlotte, North Carolina he payed the ultimate price of having his ride confiscated by police. The Cobra along with a 2005 350Z were caught street racing in South Charlotte and are now property of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police HITS (Highway Interdiction and Safety) Unit.
According to CMPD Captain Andy Kornberg “If you get caught street racing, we’re going to take your car and I’m going to enjoy driving it.” Now the police are using the cars in Charlotte to combat street racing, speeders and aggresive drivers who break the law. Instead of hiding behind billboards in marked cars “We are going to hide in plain sight,” said Kornberg who vows to stop illegal street racing by setting a precedant to other street racers, if you get caught racing we will take your car.
