The final month of 2007 is in the books and December was another bad month sales wise.  Although sales of Mustangs were down considerable from the previous year, sales actually rose from last month almost a 1,000 units.  So there is a bit of positive news out of Blue Oval land for the Mustang just not much.  Lets hope 2008 brings better sales so I can post up an upward green arrow instead of all these ugly red arrows.

Sales of Mustangs for December of this year were 8,315 compared to 11,245 from December of the last year showing a 26.1% drop in sales. Year to date sales for 2007 Mustangs are 134,626 compared to 166,530 for 2006, a 19.2% drop over the previous year.

If you are curious what previous months sales are check out March, April, May , June , July , August , September , October and November Sales.

I really hate to see the Pony’s taking it on the chin in sales and on top of that the Blue Oval sinking past Toyota overall in the US market. On the up side maybe Ford will offer some 0% interest deals again real soon on the Stang. I’m in the market and just waiting for something in that rage to pull the trigger.

Hopefully, Ford can offer more incentives this spring to regain the number 2 spot. Also FORD dealers need to stop marking up the GT500 and create a buzz around the mustang. Imagine if the dealers had a lottery system to purchase the shelby mustang GT500 at each dealership for MSRP. Each Ford dealership would be filled like barrett jackson auctions. This alone would help generate foot traffic to the dealerships and they could offer potential customers into other cars…. IMO……

I think its kind of expected to have sales of a new model sort of taper off after a while. There’s a reason manufacturers change the way a car looks, feels, etc. every so often. The Mustang has sold like gangbusters, and when the ‘10 model comes out, it’ll do it again.

Well, the S197 has been out now for close to four years, everyone that couldn’t live without one has one by now. Gas prices are up, which is never good for performance cars marketed to those that can afford gas the least. On top of that, the Camaro and the Challenger are right around the corner.

I’d love to see 2008 as an up year, but remember, the 2010 refresh will be here next year. A lot of buyers will be waiting until 2009 to purchase the new model. It’s only natural the vehicle will continue to decline.

I’m already looking forward to the 2010 Mustang. Ford needs to do it’s part and change the styling enough to keep it from getting stale. A new hood or fascia and a few scoops like they did in 1999 won’t do it! If they can do that, and provide a little extra power, I bet they’ll continue to dominate, even with the Challenger and Camaro.
