Shelby GT500KR Gets 10 More Horsepower

September 17th, 2007 by CobraMatt

shelby_kr_carroll.jpg

I know this is not the ground breaking news you are looking for but what the heck some of you might get excited that the 2008 Shelby GT500KR will now have 550 horsepower over the previously stated 540 HP.

Just this past week Carroll Shelby visited Ford’s proving grounds in Dearborn, Michigan where a few GT500KR prototypes were being driven and photographed.  It was there that StangsUnleashed said Ford announced the 2008 Shelby GT500KR will get an extra 10 horsepower from the previously announced 540 horsepower.  Good news all around but I am sure there are more horses just waiting to let out with a few inexpensive bolt-ons.

Photos of Carroll Shelby at Ford’s proving grounds are below.

Kelly Clarkson Joins 2007 Warriors In Pink Campaign

August 30th, 2007 by CobraMatt

Ford ramps up its fight against breast cancer by announcing today a very special addition to its 2007 Warriors in Pink Campaign in support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Two-time Grammy-winner and former American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson joins Ford’s fight by appearing in their campaign designed to drive awareness of the Warriors in Pink initiative. Ford has supported Komen for the Cure for 13 years and has dedicated more than $90 million in cash and in-kind donations to save lives and help end breast cancer forever. Last year, the line of apparel generated more than $1.1 million in sales, with all net proceeds going to Komen.

The Grammy winner is joining Ford in the fight against breast cancer for the second year in a row. As a supporter of breast cancer awareness and eradication, this year, Clarkson will be the face of the Warriors in Pink print campaign as well as the PSA on the importance of early detection to be featured on fordcares.com. In addition, Clarkson designed a one-of-a-kind customized Warriors in Pink miniature Mustang that will be auctioned off during the month of October. In 2006, a portion of tickets sold for Clarkson’s Addicted summer concert tour was donated to Komen for the Cure as part of Ford’s Warriors in Pink effort. Breakfast With The Ford Mustang, THEY’RE GR-R-REAT

August 30th, 2007 by CobraMatt

Get ready for a chance to win a Ford Mustang, Edge or F-150 in a new contest put on by Kellogg’s, HotWheels, Target and Ford.  It’s easy to play, all you have to do is buy Kellogg’s cereals at participating Target stores around the country and collect the collector cards inside each box.  To win the Mustang you have to turn in a red, silver and Orange Mustang card.  Just like Monopoly at McDonalds, some of the cars are numerous while others are rare.  The contest begins in September and is exclusive to Target stores.  Also inside every cereal box is a coupon for a Ford-model Hot Wheels basic car.

This is a good reason to go out and buy some frosted flakes for September, I dont usually eat cereal in the morning but I could make an exception for a month to play along in the promotion.

After the jump I have included photos and the press release for all the info. Continue reading ‘Breakfast With The Ford Mustang, THEY’RE GR-R-REAT’

Shelby Terlingua Racing Team Making A Comeback

July 25th, 2007 by CobraMatt

Here is the story about the Terlingua Racing Team making a comeback, I am to tired to write anything about it so just enjoy the press release below and give me your thoughts if you have any in the comments.

Shelby Automobiles, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc., (CSBI.PK) and designer/artist Bill Neale are returning the legendary Terlingua Racing Team to the forefront of the grassroots racing community. The team will explore opportunities to develop products similar to the Shelby program in the mid 1960s.

“We were a bunch of young hot rodders when we formed the Shelby Terlingua Racing Team,” noted Carroll Shelby, Founder of Shelby Automobiles. “Most people think our group disappeared because we took our activities underground when my company stopped building GT350’s and GT500’s. Now that Shelby Autos is working with Ford again to build high performance cars, its time to put the Shelby Terlingua Racing Team back into the spotlight. We asked Bill Neale, who was a co-founder of the group, to help us create cars and products for serious young enthusiasts who want both fun and performance.” Continue reading ‘Shelby Terlingua Racing Team Making A Comeback’

Shelby GT-H Convertible #001 Brings $250K at Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Event

April 2nd, 2007 by CobraMatt

****Update****
I have added a video of the whole auction after the jump. Enjoy…

The unveiling of the Shelby GT-H Convertible went down Saturday as rumors flew this past week about which car was making it’s debut at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach event.  Was it going to be the 2008 Shelby GT500 KR or the GT-H convertible, well the latter proved to be true.  As the Shelby GT-H convertible was driven on stage under a blue Ford cover surrounded by Ford and Shelby employees you just knew it was a special day at the BJ Palm beach event.  Mark Fields, president of FoMoCo stood at the auctioneers stand and did the formal introudion with Carroll Shelby jumping out of the passenger door to surprise the crowd.

The first GT-H Convertible #001 sold to noted Arizona businessman and Mustang collector Ron Pratte for $250,000.  Mr. Pratte is an old veteran of these kinds of auctions as he has bought the first Shelby GT500 #001, Shelby GT #001, Shelby GT-H coupe #001 and Carroll Shelby’s personal twin supercharged ‘Super Snake’.  Along with buying the car Mr. Pratte also won the one-off Shelby GT-H Fender Stratocaster guitar and was invited for vehicle delivery at Shelby’s Las Vegas facility.  The proceeds of the auction will go to Carroll Shelby Children’s Foundation and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund.

The Shelby GT-H convertible #001 will be one of 500 produced with the remaining 499 being put into service at Hertz rental locations throughout the country.  The car is pretty much an exact copy of the coupe except the convertible comes with a rollbar and black-painted Bullitt style wheels like the ones on the Shelby GT.  Just like the coupes these limited edition Mustangs will see some rental time and be auctioned after there duty has been done.

February 2007 Mustang Sales Figures Released

March 4th, 2007 by CobraMatt

mustang_sales_figures_down.jpg

And we all thought Mustangs were selling like hotcakes, well they are to a point but according to the data below Mustang sales are starting to dip a little even with all the specialty models and incentives. Sales of the Mustang for February of this year were 10,772, compared to 13,367 in February of 2006, a 19.4% decline. For the two months of this year (2007) Ford has sold 19,836 Mustangs compared to the 2006 total for January and February of 24,575, which is a 19.3% decline. These kinds of declines might not throw up any red flags just yet because these declines might be typical for a vehicle that has been on the market 2-3 years, although it might be time for a refreshning or even another redesign to help sales get back on track.

It’s been a long day and I am feeling lazy so I will just write you a short little post and provide the press release from Ford on the one-of-a kind autographed Fender Stratocaster guitar they are donating.

The Fender Stratocaster is autographed by racing legend Carroll Shelby and is being donated to the GuitarMainia fundraiser in support of Greater Cleaveland United Way and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame education Fund.  Along with the donation Ford is also partnering with Fender Guitars to offer two customized guitars through the Ford Collection website.  Read all about it in the press release after the jump. Head of SVT Hau Thai-Tang Leaving For Brasil

February 22nd, 2007 by CobraMatt

hauthaitang.jpgThere are a few reports going around the net that Hau Thai-Tang, current Director of SVT will be getting a promotion to take over the helm at Ford of Brasil, which is Ford Motor Company’s most profitable global market.

For those not familiar with Thai-Tang he was the Cheif Program Engineer for FoMoCo on the 2005 Mustang.  He spearheaded the iconic launch of the S197 Mustang platform in 2005 and then moved on to become the Director of SVT.  His latest work along with SVT personell can be seen in the form of the Shelby GT500 which turned out to be the most powerful Mustang ever produced.

Could this promotion lead Thai-Tang onto bigger and better things like a nod to one day head Ford in the US.  One can only speculate about his future but it sounds to me like they are shipping him off to Brasil to be groomed for something bigger.

Franklin Mint 2007 Shelby GT500 Diecast Replica

February 15th, 2007 by CobraMatt

gt500_diecast1.jpg

Diecast replicas have never really been my thing and I actually only own one with it being a Yellow Ferrari I recieved for Christmas a few years back from a family member.  Come to think of it why did they buy me a Ferrari diecast when my whole family knows I am into Mustangs.  That always happens to me at Christmas, I am a die hard Mustang and Ford guy and some aunt or uncle always buys me a Chevy hat or BMW key chain, sometimes I just don’t get it.

Anyway back to the subject at hand, the Franklin Mint, Ford Motor Company and Carroll Shelby have teamed up to offer a new 2007 Shelby GT500 diecast model that is limited to 5,000 pieces. It is crafted in 1:24 scale and is being offered in Vista Blue with White stripes.  All the bells and whistles that come with typical diecast models are included like opening doors, hood, and trunk.  If you are looking to buy head over to SteedShop.com where you can pre-order this item for $118.99.
