February 8th, 2008 by CobraMatt

Jack Roush, motorsports legend and performance Mustang builder has announced his 2008 appearance schedule which coincides with 8 of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events around the country.  Mr. Roush will appear the Thursday evening before each of the scheduled NASCAR events at one of the larger volume ROUSH authorized Ford dealersips in the area.  At each event you will have the chance to meet Mr. Roush and obtain his autograph at no charge.  Each Ford dealership he visits will include other entertainment and a car show to mark his visit.

Looks like I will be heading over to the Grand Prairie Ford location on April 3rd to meet the legend and get his autograph as it’s only 10 minutes from my house.  Pretty sweet how he makes time to attend all these dealerships to meet with his fans.  After the jump I have listed the full schedule of dates and locations. Shelby Reloads The Shotgun and Fires Back at SAAC

February 4th, 2008 by CobraMatt

shelby_vs_saac.jpg

It’s been a rough couple of months for the SAAC and thier co-founders Ken Eber and Rick Kopec who saw thier 33 year old beloved Shelby Car Club’s license terminted last year only to be met with a new lawsuit a few days ago by Carroll Shelby Licensing.  CSL Inc. filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles superior court on January 29th against the SAAC for Breach of Contract and Preliminary and Permanent Injunction against the SAAC which is owned by Eber and Kopec.  Basically the lawsuit is to try and put an end to the SAAC and the unauthorized use of Shelby’s trademarks along with them returning all information, documents, statistics and memorabilia to Shelby.

According to the lawsuit the SAAC has made repeated claims that they do not recognize the termination of the license and will not dismantle the SAAC therefore giving CSL Inc. no choice but to go forward with the latest lawsuit.  In lieu of the new lawsuit this may finally put an end to the SAAC and thier 33 year history, at least officially.  I am sure the SAAC will live on forever under a new name without using the Shelby trademark.

For full details check out the press release after the jump. Continue reading ‘Shelby Reloads The Shotgun and Fires Back at SAAC’

PowerTV Exposed For What They Really Are, Spammers

January 19th, 2008 by CobraMatt

powertv_spammer.jpg

PowerTV, who has recently become a player in online automotive viral videos has been exposed by SpankMyMarketer.com for being a ‘Viral Video Marketing Company’ or as they like to call them Spammers who work for some of the top names in the automotive industry including General Motors, Dynomax, Holley ,Comp Cams and SEMA promoting their products.

What is a Viral Video Marketing Company, well SpankMyMarketer has summed it up quite nicely as a company that produces videos for clients, and then promotes the videos for them online, using viral marketing tactics through various social networks like automotive forums.

You might be asking yourself what does this have to do with Mustangs, well you may have noticed PowerTV has been promoting their videos pretty heavily through various forums on several if not all Mustang websites by way of forum members with the names powermelissa, powerjon, poweramanda, powerscott and nmrajames. The only reason they join Mustang forums is to promote their videos as with an example here at MustangHeaven.com where powermelissa only posts threads linking to videos on their site.  Like with MustangHeaven’s forums several other Mustang forums have banned these members for repeatedly creating these spamming threads with links to their videos.

Even though this practice is not illegal it’s unethical because as members of the forum PowerTV staff is not there to contribute but to promote and profit off what they write and link to.  Mustang forums are not alone as they have also been hitting hundreds of other automotive sites around the net.

It’s definately a fascinating read about PowerTV, who their key players are and what they do.  Check it out on SpankMyMarketer.com.

I AM Legend Opening Scene Featuring Shelby GT500

January 15th, 2008 by CobraMatt

If the opening scene of I Am Legend does not sell you a GT500 then I am not sure what will. The sounds from the exhaust and supercharger are amazing as the GT500 roars through the streets of New York City. I do have to admit part of the reason for wanting to see the movie was the GT500 shown in the previews but for those who have seen the movie you only get to see the car for about 2 minutes and thats it. The clip above shows the first 9 minutes or so of the movie with the GT500 coming in at about 3:10 and ending at 5:10. Oh and the rest of the movie was pretty good although I thought it ended quite abrubtly but then again it can’t go on forever.

2008 Barrett-Jackson Mustang Auction Preview

December 31st, 2007 by CobraMatt

2008_bj-cshelby.jpg

It’s almost that time of year again, time for one of my favorite events, the 37th annual Barrett Jackson Collector Car Auction. The 2008 Barrett-Jackson auction takes place every year in the middle of January in Scottsdale, Arizona and for car collectors it’s the Super Bowl of auto auctions. This auction draws out collectors and celebrities from all over the world. This years auction is being held on January 12 - 20th and will encompass special events, displays and activites for everybody who attends. A schedule of events can be found at Barrett-Jackson.com along with ticket and other information.

Some of you might know that I have attended the last few years but this one I will have to sit out due to some previous commitments. Don’t worry though Speed will have great coverage for the whole auction and with TIVO it makes for some nice late night viewing.

This years auction is much of the same with just a shade under 100 Mustangs and Shelbys that will go on the auction block for the 2008 show with live auctions starting January 15 and carrying through the 20th.

Some of the highlighted Mustangs on the auction block this year include Carroll Shelby’s personal 1969 Shelby GT500 Convertible, a 2008 Shelby GT500KR #001, Patrick Dempsey’s FR500C Racecar, the 2007 Shelby GT500 Anniversary Prototype along with many 60’s era Shelby GT500 & GT350’s.

Speed Channel will be covering the whole event from January 12th through the final auction on January 20th. Live coverage of auctions will take place just like previous years.  After the jump you will find the complete list of Mustangs including their lot numbrs, auction day and link to more information on each model.  Enjoy…. ‘Bullitt’ Movie Added To National Film Registry

December 28th, 2007 by CobraMatt

bullitt_movie_poster.jpgA list of 25 movies including ‘Bullitt’ have been added to the National Film Registry’s list which now contains some 475 movies.  The ‘Bullitt’ movie was selected by the Librarian of Congress to be preserved for all of time.  Movies added to the list are chosen for their artistic character, historical significance or their reflection of both the good and bad sides of American culture and the film ‘Bullitt’ did just that.  The historic scene from the movie was a car chase that lasted 11 minutes through the streets of San Francisco between Lt. Frank Bullitt’s (Steve McQeeen) Ford Mustang and a Dodge Charger.  The historical significance of this film was brought about by British director Peter Yates who decided to shoot the film in San Francisco rather then Los Angeles or New York City which eventually turned the Bay area into a prime location for future movie shoots.

Other movies included in the 25 are ‘Back To The Future’, ‘Dances With Wolves’, ‘12 Angry Men’ and the musical ‘Oklahoma’.
