3D Carbon Convertible Tonneau Cover For S197 Stangs

August 27th, 2007 by CobraMatt

3d_carbon_tonneau_cover.jpg

When this tonneau cover for the S197 Ford Mustang came out earlier this year it slipped right passed my radar but when I was reading the October edition of Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords it caught my attention.  I know I don’t own an S197 convertible just yet but I expect my next car to be one whether it be a GT or GT500.  One of the first mods along with the exhaust will probably be this 3D Carbon convertible Tonneau cover.  It’s by far the best looking cover I have seen for S197 Mustangs.  The cover is officially licensed by Ford and is manufactured in textured ABS plastic.  It comes in a black finish but can be painted to match your cars color. Price for this cover is in the $450-$500 range and it can be bought through any authorized 3D Carbon dealer.

Fidanza 3.5″ Aluminum One-Piece Driveshaft

August 17th, 2007 by CobraMatt

fidanza_driveshaft.jpg

When the sad day comes for me to release my Cobra to the general public and I start hunting for my next Mustang purchase of an S197 model, hopefully a GT500 but looking more like a GT, one of the first things I will probably do to my S197 stang is replace the two-piece driveshaft with an aftermarket one-piece unit.  It seems like common sense to replace something that uses two parts down to one along with a signifigant weight reduction.  One such company who produces these driveshafts is Fidanza who has just come out with their 3.5″ diameter aluminum Mustang driveshafts that are rated for up to 600 and 900 horsepower.  The all aluminum shafts weigh only 16 lbs. (32 lbs. less than stock!). The end result is less rotating mass and less wasted horsepower in the drivetrain.

Check out Fidanza’s press release after the jump for all the info. Continue reading ‘Fidanza 3.5″ Aluminum One-Piece Driveshaft’

Big 3 Performance Unviels 650 HP Limited Edition Mustang

August 9th, 2007 by CobraMatt

big_3_mustang.jpg

Here we go again, another specialty manufacturer is teaming up with some big names in the aftermarket to create a Limited Edition 650 Horsepower Mustang. The company behind it all is Big 3 Performance which till now has flew under my radar because I have not heard of them.  They will make 100 Limited Edition Mustangs over the 2007-08 model year and offer a 3-year/36,000 mile warranty on all the cars.

The Mustangs will be broken down with 20 Mustangs getting the 650 horsepower treatment, 30 getting a 500 horsepower treatment and 50 getting just the appearance package.  Details on exactly what each package contains have yet to be released but expect the 650 and 500 horsepower versions to include a Supercharger.

After the jump I have included a bunch of photos along with the press release.

New K&N Direct Replacement Filter For Shelby GT500

July 25th, 2007 by CobraMatt

kn_airfilter_gt500.jpg

The most powerful Mustang on the road is the Shelby. With 450-plus horsepower, the 5.4 liter 32-valve V8 is similar to the engine in the GT. Ford designed a new low-profile intake manifold to fit under the special hood for this state-of-the-art performance car.

K&N Engineering has designed a washable, reusable, panel air filter (33-2365) for the 2007 Ford Mustang Shelby 5.4 liter V8 engine. K&N Air Filters flow more air safely. We found an optimal blend of high air flow, filtration efficiency, durability and dust capacity. Our goal is to design filters with the maximum possible airflow achievable while providing excellent engine protection. Continue reading ‘New K&N Direct Replacement Filter For Shelby GT500′

SteedSkins Introduces All New Leather Shift Boot

June 28th, 2007 by CobraMatt

steed_skins_leather_shifter.jpg

Another lazy post for me, this entry is another press release from the good folks over at SteedShop.com who are introducing a custom leather factory looking Shift boot for 2005-07 Mustang owners.  Read below about the Shift boot or head over to SteedShop.com for all the info.

An all new product has been released from SteedSkins over at the SteedShop.com, allowing Mustang owners to upgrade their interiors with the rich look, feel, and smell of genuine leather. Currently available for 2005-2006 Mustangs, the SteedSkins brand shift boot is made from top quality automotive grade leather for a great match to the Mustang’s factory color and grain.

Not a “universal fit” product, the SteedSkins shift boot features a unique bonded ring collar top just like the factory boot, allowing it to fit snugly with the OEM style shift knob for a factory fit and look. Many of the aftermarket shift boots come with an unfinished open ended neck that doesn’t easily fit or requires fabrication to have a finished look. Working with Scott Drake Enterprises, we developed components and packages that will power these cars to the front of the pack.”

Parts packages from the newly formed company will be made available for both V6 and GT Mustang models with individual components like upgraded brakes, supercharger packages, suspension components and styling enhancements like hoods and front fascias.  Other parts that will be sold are part of the Shelby GT500 “Super Snake” package.  The red with black stripes prototype “Super Snake” will be on hand at Mid-America event this weekend for all to see. Stangnet’s Glassback Shelby GT500 Project Car

June 6th, 2007 by CobraMatt

stangnet_gt500_1_main.jpg

You might remember from a previous post we mentioned Mike Raburn, owner/founder of Stangnet.com purchased a White Shelby GT500 coupe, well he took delivery back in early April and wasted no time turning it into the Glassback GT500 project for his site.  The car was purchased at Dean Sellers Ford in Troy, Michigan and from there it went straight to Classic Design Concepts for a complete makeover from the ground up.

Once at CDC the Vista Blue Stripes were carefully removed from the car to make way for the hand painted stripes instead of the stickers Ford puts on.  CDC then created a one-off custom crafted Glassback roof with matching exterior paint and stripes to give the car illusion the roof is still entact.  The exterior of the car also includes a custom massaged rear ducktail spoiler, a painted lower front spoiler, a lower front grille with driving lights and a pair of 2008 GT500 HID headlights.  Other exterior features less noticeable are the C-pillar scoops on the quarter windows, color-keyed sideview mirrors and functional brake cooling ducts where the factory fog lamps used to be. Turbonetics Bolt-On Turbo System Delivers 550 HP

June 3rd, 2007 by CobraMatt

turbonetics_main.jpg

The turbo gurus at Turbonetics have just announced their bolt-on turbo system for the 2005-06 Ford Mustang GT which is rated at a jawdropping 550 horsepower is now available for purchase and shipping.  The new turbo system will bolt right up to your stock Mustang GT with a simple one -day installation that requires no chassis modifications and no cutting or splicing of electrical components.  This kit includes everything needed to install the turbo system down to the nut and bolt.  The Price for this kit is around $6K.

When I hear about a product like this it makes me want to sell my Cobra and purchase a 2005-06 Mustang GT and strap this baby on.  With Shelby GT500 prices still hovering around the $55K mark this is a great alternative for someone who is on a budget.  Prices for a 2005-06 Mustang GT are around $22K-$25K and a $6K Turbo kit would put you at about $30K for 550 horsepower, that is one hell of a Shelby GT500 Killer (sleeper) for almost half the cost.  If I was Turbonetics I would be marketing this thing as an alternative to the high priced Shelby GT500’s.

After the jump you will find all the details and a high-res photo of the turbo system. Continue reading ‘Turbonetics Bolt-On Turbo System Delivers 550 HP’
