The auction for Both KITT’s featured on the TV movie Knight Rider and the rights to purchase the last 2009 Shelby GT500KR made sold for $300,000 at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach event on Saturday. Initially the auction was for both KITT’s but as bidding stalled out at $160K Mark Fields from Ford took control of the microphone and announced in addition to both cars the winner of the auction would also get the rights to buy a 2009 Shelby GT500KR at MSRP. With that being said bidding jumped up to $240K where it once again fizzled out but then the annoucement came the 2009 Shelby GT500KR would be the last one produced #1576. When all was said and done the bidding ended at $300K. All proceeds of the auction went to ‘Salute to Education’ charity.

It seemed like things were going strong for musclecar builder Unique Performance with cars being cranked out and their family-type relationships with Foose & Shelby until a recent article on AutoWeek.com. The article was written by Mark Vaughn of AW who writes about how Unique could be in trouble after Shelby’s licensing branch announced it’s taking steps to sever their relationship after numerous complaints and several lawsuits filed by customers who paid for various ”Continuation” Shelby’s and have yet to receive them. Check below for the full AutoWeek article.
In what may be related or unrelated to this news story because of some sort of partnership squabbling, Unique Performance has re-scheduled their annual Unique PerformanceFest car show on October 20th of this year to sometime in the Spring of 2008 citing “celebrity scheduling conflicts”. The event is held every year around the same time in October. Chip Foose has been a regular to this event and Carroll Shelby has attended before. You can draw your own conclusions from this news. Press Release: Frank Lawton is the chairman of this event, as well as a Mustang enthusiast. He said the Ford Mustang has been an American icon since it first rolled off the assembly line in 1964. “They appeal to all segments of the population,” Lawton, who owns a 2005 Saleen Mustang and a 2006 Mustang GT, said.
Expect to see many older collectible Mustangs as well as their late model, more technologically advanced counterparts.
Lawton hopes that this rally will become the premier Mustang rally in the nation. He expects a very good turnout for this first event.
“We’ve got people coming in from all over the country,” Lawton said.
According to Robin Shrake, the secretary/treasurer for the Mustang Club of America, she puts on a grand national rally every year. Located in a different town every year - the Mustang Rally is scheduled at least two years in advance.
“We’re hoping within three to five years we can bring the national rally here to Sturgis,” Shrake said.
It will be a fun-filled weekend for those who participate. There will be a swap meet, drag races, show and shine, street dance and a couple of different poker runs throughout the weekend where $3,000 in prize money will be available.
