2007 Fun Ford Weekend Kicks Off In Orlando

February 28th, 2007 by CobraMatt

orlando07.jpg

Another season of Fun Ford Weekend is upon us yet again and the first stop is the 17th Annual FFW Spring Break Shootout at the Orlando Speed World Dragway on March 3 & 4.  Each year the first stop has always been Orlando due in large part to how cooperative the weather is, not that racing in snow or freezing cold tempatures is bad but most would rather be racing on a nice sunny day with bikini girls looking on.  Things that can be found at FFW events other then racing include swap meets, girls, vendor booths, car shows, girls and more. Bad Boy Saleen Mustang Goes To Cannonball Winner

January 29th, 2007 by CobraMatt

It’s the coast to coast car race we have all come to know and love as the Cannonball Run, but instead of calling it that it’s dubbed The Great American Run in the US and the winner will receive a handsome prize in the form of a brand new Saleen Mustang that is packing 600 horsepower. The limited edition Saleen Mustang will be 1 of 25 built specifically by Saleen for event participants to purchase. The Mustang is said to be able to shoot to 60 mph in under 4 seconds and reach a top speed of 200 mph. Of the 24 cars being sold to participants 11 have already found a home. Prices for this ultra rare Saleen Mustang have not surfaced yet but I would expect them to top the S281 Extreme price of $75K. Continue reading ‘Bad Boy Saleen Mustang Goes To Cannonball Winner’

2007 Barrett Jackson Photos Added

2007 Barrett Jackson Photo

Well I have finally uploaded all the photos I took from last weeks Barrett-Jackson collector car auction. I ended up taking somewhere in the 500 range and most of them were good with the exception of my first day at the event. For part of my first day the camera I was using (borrowed Nikon SLR) was on the wrong setting, so to make a long story short most of the photos were blurry when I got back to my hotel room. No worries as I went back and took most of them again and they came out fine. I uploaded something like 240+ photos to my MustangPhotos.com site, check them out here.

Day 4, 5, 6 Barrett-Jackson Mustang Results

January 24th, 2007 by CobraMatt

I know it’s about a day late and a dollar short but I promised all your folks out there in Mustang land I would post up the rest of the Mustang results from the Barrett-Jackson auction.

Friday and Saturday at BJ are the days you should stop what you are doing and force yourself to attend or watch on Speed because these are the days the big money is spent and was it ever. Friday’s auctions varied quite a bit with the high for the day including Lot# 1025 , a 1968 Shelby GT500 convertible that went for $313,500 and the low Lot# 1067 a 1965 Mustang GT Fastback that brought $36,300.

The what the heck were thinking auction of the day goes to Lot# 916, a custom 2004 Cobra SVT convertible that featured some wide body panels in the rear along with a custom dash and interior. The car looked totally rediculous and I am in total awe that it brought $49,500 for the final sale price. Who buys this kind of stuff, this auction was a total shocker. Day 3: 2007 Barrett-Jackson Mustang Results

January 19th, 2007 by CobraMatt

Another day has wrapped at the 2007 Barrett-Jackson auto auction and day 3 was a little scarce on Mustangs as only 11 Mustangs went across the main stage. The daily average for Mustangs improved to $50, 200 up from Wednesdays average of $43,400. Top honors for the Mustang went to two cars today with both of them bringing $70, 400, Lot#659.1, a 1971 Boss 351 Fastback . The other Mustang was Lot#720.1, a 1969 Mach 1 Fastback. Although it was slow day on the Mustang front keep checking back as the Mustang auctions are about to heat up with the next three days of auctions.

For the next two days I will not be able to post the days wrap until Sunday.

Day 2: 2007 Barrett-Jackson Mustang Results

January 18th, 2007 by CobraMatt

Day 2 of the 2007 Barrett-Jackson collector car auction has come to close with eighteen Mustangs making their way across the main stage and 5 of them being Mach 1’s. Day 2 of the auction saw the average price of a Mustang dip a little to $43,400 from Tuesdays average of $45, 250. For these first couple days the averages are going to be quite low as most of the high dollar Mustangs will be auctioned Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Also on Wednesday we did not see a Mustang break the coveted $100K mark but one fine example did get fairly close at $88K and it was Lot#449, a 1969 Mustang Mach 1 428 SCJ ‘R’ Fastback that comes with a Marti report showing it being 1 of 4 in existance. For the cheapest Mustang if we can even say that went to Lot#321, a 1971 Mustang Mach 1 Fastback with a final sale price of $18, 975.

Just like for Tuesday’s auctions I have listed below all the Mustangs and their final sale price. If you see any errors please let me know in the comments.

January 17th, 2007 by CobraMatt

My Tivo was working overtime last night as I skipped through most of Day 1 searching for the final prices of the auctions so I could post them up for everybody. The 2007 Barrett Jackson Collector Car Auction got under way earlier in the week but yesterday was the first day of the auction with live coverage being shown on the speed channel. Auction Coverage started yesterday and will run through Sunday with auction by auction coverage including live shots of the grounds and vendor areas. Below are two lists which are identical except for the bottom one has the final sale price with the buyers premium added in, it reflects what the buyer actual paid. I hope everybody enjoys the lists and check back late tomorrow night for Day 2.

2007 Barrett-Jackson Mustang Auction Preview

December 18th, 2006 by CobraMatt

The Barrett Jackson Collector Car Auction takes place every year in the middle of January in Scottsdale, Arizona and for car collectors it’s like the Super Bowl of auto auctions. This auction brings out collectors and celebrities from all over the world. This years auction is being held on January 13 - 21st and will encompass special events, displays and activites for everybody that attends. A schedule of events can be found at Barrett-Jackson.com along with ticket and other information.

Some of you might know that I attended last years event and took over 150 photos. I am almost 85% sure I will attending the 2007 event with a few friends to cover the event, so expect more pictures and info from the 2007 event. Unlike last time I will have my laptop with me to blog the event each day and provide pictures. The days I should be their are tenative but I am guessing it will be January 18-21st. I will give more information as the event nears.

The list below includes around 100 Mustangs and Shelbys that will go on the auction block for the 2007 show with live auctions starting January 16 and carrying through the 21st.

Some of the Mustangs on the auction block this year include two Mustangs from Paul Sr and Paul Jr. of Orange County Choppers, a 2007 Shelby GT Serial # 001, Several Shelby GT500’s, BOSS 429’s and Mach I Mustangs.

Speed Channel will be covering the whole event from January 13th through the final auction on January 21st. Live coverage of auctions will take place just like last year. More news to follow on exact times and dates.

Ford Unveils Three New Pace Cars For NASCAR’s Season Finale

October 18th, 2006 by CobraMatt

With 4 races left until the season ending race at Homestead-Miami Speedway Ford has taken it upon them self to do a little scoreboarding and unveil three new pace cars for the final Championship Weekend that takes place November 17-19th. The three vehicles include an F-150 FX-2 that will pace the Ford 200 Craftsman Truck race, a Ford Edge to pace the Ford 300 Busch race, and a Ford Shelby GT500 to pace the Ford 400 Nextel Cup race. All three vehicles will be just how they left factory except for some decals and lights that are standard on all pace car vehicles.

If you can’t wait for the final race to see the Shelby pace car then don’t fret because we got more photos for you, follow the links below. I have also included below the full press release from Ford if you like to read.

Shelby Pace Car Photos - 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.

Full Press Release:

Three “championship-level” 2007 Ford vehicles – the Ford Shelby GT500, Ford Edge and Ford F-150 FX2 Sport – have been selected to pace the three Ford Championship Weekend races at Homestead-Miami Speedway, site of NASCAR’s season-ending events.

Dan Davis, director of Ford Racing Technology; Curtis Gray, president of Homestead-Miami Speedway; and Matt Kenseth, the 2003 NASCAR Nextel Cup champion and a contender for this year’s title, were all on hand at the race track today to help unveil the three pace vehicles in a ceremony before open NASCAR testing at the track.

“We wanted to select championship level production vehicles to pace the Ford Championship Weekend, and we picked three of the best,” said Davis, in making the announcement. “When you talk about vehicles that combine bold design and the kind of performance needed to lead the NASCAR field on track, these three vehicles are the place to start.”

Bold Moves on Track

The Ford Shelby GT500, which will lead the field in the Ford 400, is simply the most powerful Mustang ever.

At 500 horsepower, there won’t be any problem leading the NASCAR Nextel Cup field. The GT500, with its 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine, is a collaboration between racing legend Carroll Shelby and Ford Special Vehicle Team.

The car also features an aggressive muscular front-end design, Le Mans racing stripes, and the unmistakable Cobra logo and Shelby nameplate. It has a race-tuned suspension, six-speed manual transmission and four-piston Bembo brakes.

The Ford Edge will be the first Ford crossover utility vehicle (CUV) to pace a NASCAR race when it leads the field for the Ford 300 NASCAR Busch Series event.

The Edge features bold American design, 265 horsepower out of a 3.5-liter V-6 engine, and innovative features such as a panoramic Vista Roof, Advance Trac with Roll Stability Control, a Safety Canopy air curtain system, an MP3-player jack and console laptop storage.

With contemporary design and engaging vehicle dynamics, Edge is Ford’s answer to the growing CUV market, which is the fastest-growing segment in the United States.

The F-150 FX2 Sport is the latest edition to the F-Series family of great Ford trucks that are on their way to a 30th consecutive year of sales leadership.

The FX2 Sport package is available on 4X2 SuperCab and SuperCrew XLT editions, and features a dark accent billet-style grille insert with body color grille surround, unique 18-inch aluminum wheels, available 20-inch aluminum wheels, a chrome exhaust tip, fog lamps, unique captain’s chairs with center console and floor-mounted shifter, and a body color front bumper, rear bumper, door and tailgate handles.

Each of the three vehicles has been equipped for their pace car duties with special decal packages and light bars.

Bold Moves in the Chase

Matt Kenseth, the 2003 NASCAR Nextel Cup champion, took part in today’s ceremonies and was on hand to test for Ford Championship Weekend, where he will seek his second NASCAR title.

Kenseth, driver of the DeWalt Ford Fusion, led the NASCAR points championship going into the 10-race, NASCAR Nextel Cup Chase for the Championship playoff. Going into the Oct. 22 race at Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Va., Kenseth is just 45 points out of the championship lead.

His Roush Racing teammate, Mark Martin, is the other Ford Racing driver among the final 10 competing for the Nextel Cup title. Going into Martinsville, Martin – driver of the AAA Ford Fusion – ranked No. 4 in the chase standings, 102 points out of first as he seeks his first Nextel Cup championship.

The NASCAR Ford Fusion made it debut this past February in Daytona, and has captured five wins, with Kenseth scoring four, and his teammate Greg Biffle scoring one.

Bold Moves in the Marketplace

Ford’s racing program makes business sense for the company.

As far back as 1901, company founder Henry Ford raced to prove out his new product, and to gain favorable publicity for his efforts. His victory in his one and only race in Grosse Pointe, Mich., that year proved to be the turning point in attracting investors to Ford and helping him start the Ford Motor Company in 1903.

“My great-grandfather understood the value of racing, and what it could do for a company,” said Edsel B. Ford II, a member of the Ford board of directors and a long-time supporter of Ford’s racing programs.

“He knew what racing could do, both in terms of technical innovation and marketing. I think he’d be pleased that those are key reasons we still race today.”

Indeed, on-going research has shown racing works for Ford.

“According to our 2006 research, fifty-six percent of Ford owners call themselves race fans,” said Burt Diamond, global marketing manager, Ford Racing Technology.

“Certainly that’s a huge number of people out there who have a strong emotional connection with what we’re doing. We’d be crazy not to market to these people.”

But more than just showing interest, these Ford race fans are proving to be good, loyal customers.

Among market-active consumers, Ford’s market share among race fans is 46 percent higher than non-race fans. And consideration for Ford products is 72 percent higher among race fans, than non-race fans.

“Not only that, but we’ve found that racing truly influences the fundamental beliefs about Ford products,” said Diamond.

“Our research has shown that our primary brand attributes – things like ‘holds up well,’ ‘smart designs,’ ‘practical innovations’ – all rate higher among race fans than non race fans.

“Our NASCAR race fans have the strongest image of Ford on both primary and racing-related brand images than anywhere else we race.

“There’s no question, based on our research, that racing polishes the oval for Ford.”

Unique PerformanceFest Photos

October 14th, 2006 by CobraMatt

Here ya go, I took over a 100 photos at the Unique PerformanceFest today and they are all yours including photos of the inner workings of Unique Performance. The car show included hundreds of cars in many different makes and models with the majority of them being Mustangs. Celebrities that I did see were Chip Foose and Chris Jacobs from Overhaulin but no Carroll Shelby. It was a great car show that had a live band, food and a ton of vendors spread out over several warehouses in Farmers Branch, Texas. View the photos here at MustangPhotos.com.
