5.0L V8 Could Return For 2010 Mustang

April 17th, 2008 by CobraMatt

There is definately a buzz in the air today with the news about the 5.0L V8 motor returning for the 2010 Mustang.  According to Stuff.co.nz who interviewed Bill Osborne, President of Ford Austrailia, he confirmed a new 5.0L V8 is being developed and built in North America for the Ford Mustang.  Osbourne also goes on to say that said engine is a possible candidate for the new Falcon being produced in Austrailia.

Sounds like he spilled the beans on the possible return of the 5.0 liter V8 motor to the Mustang in either the Mustang GT or some kind of limited edition Boss or Mach 1.  What would the 2010 Shelby GT500 be, a supercharged 5.0L V8, we can only dream.  Stay tuned for more news.

Spider-Man Themed Mustang Combines Passion and Memories

April 14th, 2008 by CobraMatt

Growing up the youngest of 7 children Scott Jaegly the owner of the Spider-Man themed Mustang shown above had most everything a kid could want or need except things like comic books or the newest toys.  Scott grew up on a farm in the country with his brothers and sisters spending most of his time doing chores around the house and playing with his friends who lived next door.  His father was a car guy who worked as a salesmen for Sears Automotive which meant he always had homemade go carts and rebuilt motorcycles to play around with.  While growing up watching his older siblings fixing and working on the coolest cars Scott always knew his time would come one day to do the very same things they did.

When Scott was about 10 years old he had a pretty bad bicycle accident that sent him to the hospital with a concusion.  This would be Scott’s first time away from his home overnight and his father who felt pretty bad about the whole incident bought him a comic book to help cheer him up.  You probably can guess what the comic book was, Marvel’s Spider-Man.  Scott, who says he still has the same comic book his father brought to him that day in the hospital says he was hooked on Spider-Man after reading just one comic book.  From then on out he was into everything Spider-Man, watching the old 70’s Spider-Man TV shows, the 80’s cartoon version and collecting several pieces of Spider-Man Memorabilia along the way.

Unfortunately when Scott was 16-years-old his father passed away and he never really got to share the usual car guy relationship with his father liked he hoped.  So when Scott reached a point in his life when he could combine the two things that reminded him most of his father, cool cars and Spider-Man he created the ultimate memory for himself in what he calls Spidey-Stang. Finally Bought A Mustang, a 2007 Shelby GT

April 7th, 2008 by CobraMatt

matts_shelbygt.jpg

As some of you know I sold my 2003 Cobra a month or so ago and have been looking for my next Mustang while I was driving my 1992 5.0 LX convertible which I am sad to say has also been sold.  The ‘92 was a great Mustang but after owning it for several months it was just not what I had hoped it would be so I put it her on craigslist and away she went to someone locally for about the same price I bought it for.

After the ‘92 Mustang sold I really needed another Mustang pretty quick so my search intensified because walking 5 miles to work everyday was not an option, yes folks only 5 miles, no traffic for me.  I would have asked my wife to wake up at 7:30am everyday and drive me to work but something tells me that was not going to happen either.

As I mentioned before I was looking for a 2007 Mustang GT, California Special or even a Shelby GT if the price was right.  So one day searching dealer inventories online here in the DFW metroplex I came upon one dealer who had a 2007 Mustang GT on the lot still according their site.  It just happend to be a Sunday and the stealership was closed for the day so I drove up in the wifes SUV and looked around the lot and the only 2007 Mustang on the lot was a white Shelby GT (manual) that was tucked away in the back and no 2007 Mustang GT anywhere.  As I was leaving I did not think to much about it and actually was thinking the Mustang GT might be somewhere else on the lot in the back.  When I got home I sent an email to the stealership before I headed to bed asking about the 2007 Mustang GT.  My response to the email came back the next day and a salesmen at the stealeship said the only 2007 they had on the lot was the 2007 Shelby GT and they really wanted to move it. March 2008 Mustang Sales Figures Released

April 2nd, 2008 by CobraMatt

mustang_sales_figures_down.jpg

Mustang sales for March were down again from the previous year although the numbers are starting to pick up for 2008.  From January to February of this year we saw a 15.5% sales increase and now February to March sales have increased 24%.  This is definately some positive news but you have to take it for what it is, the month to month increase is likely due to the seasonal change and warmer weather around the country.  With high gas prices and a so-called recession around the corner sports car purchases will continue to be on the decline as consumers will move into more fuel economy vehicles leaving Mustangs sitting on dealer lots.

Sales of Mustangs for March of 2008 were 10,180 compared to 14,737 from March of 2007 showing a 30.9% drop in sales from the previous year. Year to date sales for 2008 Mustangs are 24,477 compared to 34,573 for the first three months of 2007, which is a 29.2% drop.

If you are curious what the previous month sales were then check out January and February sales figures.

Looks like Barricade returns for some more screen time in Transformers 2.  A quick thinking driver snapped these photos in Culver City outside Los Angeles the other day with his iPhone.  The three Saleen Barricade Police cars were being hauled on a flatbed and all were brand new.  There is also another explanation, they could just be the cars used in the first Transformer movie.  Take a look at all the photos after the jump and decide for yourself… Continue reading ‘Barricade Returns For Transformers 2, We Think So’

Last 2008 ROUSH P-51A Mustang Fetches $135K at Barrett-Jackson

March 30th, 2008 by CobraMatt

At this year’s Palm Beach Barrett-Jackson auction Jack Roush was on hand to auction off the last 2008 P-51A Mustang (#151) built.  To entice bidders Mr. Roush announced the high bidder would also receive a flight with him on his personal P-51D Mustang vintage World War II airplane.  Then Mark Fields, Ford’s president added more fuel to the fire by offering the winner the opportunity to be the grand marshal at the Saturday November 15 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Homestead Miami Speedway which includes throwing the green flag for the final race of the 2008 season.  With the auction coming to a close Roush added one more item, his trademark straw hat he was wearing at the time.  Bidding ended at a  $135K.

The car being unique with it’s #151 build number also had a few other styling cues to keep it a one-off like the ROUSHcharger and valve covers painted a Spitfire green to match the hood stripe.  Other unique touches included fluid covers having green accents, the rear decklid had a blackout panel added and boost and oil temperature gauges were added to the interior.
