Barricade Returns For Transformers 2, We Think So

April 1st, 2008 by CobraMatt

transformers2-mustang-saleen.jpg

Looks like Barricade returns for some more screen time in Transformers 2.  A quick thinking driver snapped these photos in Culver City outside Los Angeles the other day with his iPhone.  The three Saleen Barricade Police cars were being hauled on a flatbed and all were brand new.  There is also another explanation, they could just be the cars used in the first Transformer movie.  Take a look at all the photos after the jump and decide for yourself… Continue reading ‘Barricade Returns For Transformers 2, We Think So’

Last 2008 ROUSH P-51A Mustang Fetches $135K at Barrett-Jackson

March 30th, 2008 by CobraMatt

At this year’s Palm Beach Barrett-Jackson auction Jack Roush was on hand to auction off the last 2008 P-51A Mustang (#151) built.  To entice bidders Mr. Roush announced the high bidder would also receive a flight with him on his personal P-51D Mustang vintage World War II airplane.  Then Mark Fields, Ford’s president added more fuel to the fire by offering the winner the opportunity to be the grand marshal at the Saturday November 15 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Homestead Miami Speedway which includes throwing the green flag for the final race of the 2008 season.  With the auction coming to a close Roush added one more item, his trademark straw hat he was wearing at the time.  Bidding ended at a  $135K.

The car being unique with it’s #151 build number also had a few other styling cues to keep it a one-off like the ROUSHcharger and valve covers painted a Spitfire green to match the hood stripe.  Other unique touches included fluid covers having green accents, the rear decklid had a blackout panel added and boost and oil temperature gauges were added to the interior.

The auction for Both KITT’s featured on the TV movie Knight Rider and the rights to purchase the last 2009 Shelby GT500KR made sold for $300,000 at the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach event on Saturday.  Initially the auction was for both KITT’s but as bidding stalled out at $160K Mark Fields from Ford took control of the microphone and announced in addition to both cars the winner of the auction would also get the rights to buy a 2009 Shelby GT500KR at MSRP.  With that being said bidding jumped up to $240K where it once again fizzled out but then the annoucement came the 2009 Shelby GT500KR would be the last one produced #1576.  When all was said and done the bidding ended at $300K.  All proceeds of the auction went to ‘Salute to Education’ charity.

2009 Ford Mustang & Shelby GT500 Order Guides Available

March 20th, 2008 by CobraMatt

09mustang_order.jpg

The 2009 Mustang and Shelby GT500 order guides have surfaced with a bunch of little changes. Below I will list in no certain order all the changes I could see for the 2009 model year.  Models for 2009 include the V6, GT, Bullitt, California Special, Warriors In Pink edition, GT500 & GT500KR.

Let’s start with the major option everybody already knows about, the Glass Roof option (59G) will be available on GT and V6 Premium coupes.  The only new package available for 2009 is a GT security package (43G) which includes Active perimeter inclination & intrusion alarms along with a wheel locking kit.  Another small change is the addition of a new color, Briallant Silver Clearcoat Metallic (UI) which replaces Silver Metallic.  Another small change for 2009 includes 45th anniversary year fender badging that will appear on all V6 & GT Mustangs excluding Warriors In Pink package.  In the wheel department V6 Mustangs will have the option of 18″ wheels for the first time and GT Mustangs get a 18″ chromed aluminum wheel option.

The ‘09 GT/CS California Special package will be available in Vapor Silver this year in both coupe and convertible.  Warriors In Pink edition will be available in Performance White, Black and new color Brilliant Silver.

For the 2009 Shelby GT500 I could not see any additions or subtractions from the previous year so it’s pretty much a carry over from 2008.

The Shelby GT500KR will be back for 2009 with an additional 571 built for the US and 175 built for export to Canada, Europe, etc..  Below I have listed a link to each order guide in .pdf format.  Must have adobe acrobat reader to read.

All we have so far is a picture but we do know Saleen is unveiling this Power Sliding Glass Roof for the S197 Mustang at the New York International Auto Show this week.  From the looks of the photo above Saleen is partnering with ASC to create this Power Sliding Glass Roof.  Also in the photo you can see how the roof slides back over the rear window, not sure what it’s sliding on though.  I guess we will have to wait for the press release and photos which should come any day.  For those who don’t know Saleen and ASC are owned by the same company and are also partnering to build the 650 horsepower mid-engine S5S Raptor.

Ebay: Pre-Production 2008 Bullitt Mustang #1PP16

March 14th, 2008 by CobraMatt

1pp16_bullitt_2.jpg

It’s not often you see a pre-production Mustang of any year up for auction or sale let alone this 2008 Bullitt Mustang.  This 2008 Bullitt is a pre-production model with a wacky serial #1PP16 which according to the auction was a Ford Motor Company corporate use vehicle possibly used for dyno testing because of the condition of the car.  The condition is a bit of a mystery in itself because the Bullitt has 52K miles and with those kind of miles you would think there should be a considerable amount of wear on the car, well guess again.  According to Maibach Ford who is selling it the brakes and tires have little to no wear at all on them along with the interior looking like nobody has ever sat in it.  This leads them to believe the car was solely used for dyno testing which makes complete sense.

This pre-production Bullitt is definately a piece of history that somebody will enjoy either sitting in a collection or being driven on the road.  The Buy It Now price is set at a reasonable $25K considering the vehicle and miles.  Check out the auction here.

Shelby CS69 Wheels For My Next Mustang, 20×9

March 13th, 2008 by CobraMatt

shelby_cs69_blog.jpg

Even though my next car is still sitting on some dealers lot somewhere unclaimed by me, I have been looking over some wheel choices to kind of get an idea of what might look nice on my next Mustang. Since I am 99.9% sure my next Mustang will be of the S197 flavor I have been looking mostly at wheels that will fit 2005-08 Mustangs.

The only wheels that really catch my eye are made by Carroll Shelby, the CS69 model with the Black inlay. I noticed they only came in 20’s (20×9 or 20×10) and I am ok with that, I actually like the way they fill up the space. One thing I have noticed is most owners will opt for the 20×10’s for the rear instead of having 20×9’s all the way around. The 20×10 actually has a deeper dish then the 20×9 and I am not a big fan of that. I think if I did buy a set of these I would just get the 20×9 for all four corners. I found a bunch of S197 Mustangs with the wheels on them which are after the jump. The only color I did not find that I really wanted to get a look at was White.  Take a look at the Grabber Orange Mustang with CS69 wheels, it looks pretty sweet.

For the tires I think there is really only one way to go and that is with some Nitto NT 555’s all around.  I had the NT 555’s on my 2003 Cobra and they just really did the job for me.  Never had any issues and the ride quality just felt better than any other tires I have ever had, it could have also been the IRS but I doubt it.
